Rumors about a revival of that brilliant, rear-drive, lightweight Toyota Corolla Sport coupe that starred in the ‘80s continue to do make the rounds in Tokyo.
I dought it, but you never know. Maybe when Akio Toyoda takes over the throne, he might give it the green light since he said things will change at Toyota.
Also, another reason is Detroit's big three is getting back to their roots with RWD.
I'll believe it when I see it. Toyota is a big pussy. They don't have any performance car at the moment. They continue to make the most boring cars on the road.

Yea, that was really unessacary. Why call Toyota a "Big Pussy?" I think I just met one of THE DUMBEST people on ALL of ToyotaNation. I mean, there are other American fanboys on here (i.e. engineer) But, he doesn't bash Toyota like that! If you are going to bash Toyota like that, PLEASE do it with all elements of respect. You may not think somethings about Toyota that are negative. That is fine with us, but we would NOT like to here it.

The most boring cars on the road? Have you seen or driven a Buick in the past 20 years? Hmm...seems like you might be missing something.
Anyway, more rumors on a new AE86! There have been new AE86 rumors for over 10 years now. Toyota brass in Japan know how popular the car still is, despite being 20 years old. It seems like every couple of years this rumor gets going again. I always wonder who starts it...
Toyota is struggling to meet global demand with their current line up of cars as is. It's hard to see them even able to find production time to make another vehicle and especially something RWD, which takes a bit more production time.
But hey, if they build it I'll get in line with all the other AE86 owners past and present.
Boring? Im tired of ppl just throwing that around anytime they want to bash on toyota. Granted they dont build Ferrari's or anything like that, but seriously not many other "Mainstream" manufactures build anything much more exciting than Toyota does, they are just as "boring" if not worse.
With the exeption of the Corvette, Viper and maybe the Mustang for some ppl, what comes close? or truly significantly more exciting than Toyotas??
But still Toyota does need a Sports car, I think they are gettin the msg now and within the next few years we will see somethin'

I agree, for the most part.
And to the buick comment. Does buick try and make their little econobox model into a 'sports' car rather then jsut building a sportscar? No. If you don't actually have one in your line, then don't try and sell an existing car with a 'special package' as a sports car.
Atleast GM has gotten onboard in the Sport Compact Market with the solstice, the cobalt SS, dodge with the srt-4 caliber..mazda has it's miata as well as mazdaspeed line, honda has the s2000, nissan has the g35, 350x..toyota ahs what..oh a 4 door corolla with isn't it somthing like 170-170hp? Most new sedans come with that hp anyways..w00t for XRS..the average front wheel drive car that can't be outdone lol.
And I am no fanboy, all car companies suck, in one aspect. Toytas is 'performance' vehicles. The build and ride is good..jsut there's no performance.

Now all they need to do is bring back the Supra, Celica, MR2, and maybe style them in retro 80's looks. They'd sell like Camrys.

*Newsflash* The Matrix and Corolla XRS are dead as of 2007. You gave Toyota too much credit. I can't think of a single company more boring than post-2005 Toyota.
Wait, that's a bold claim isn't it? They have the Viper, Charger SRT-8, Magnum SRT-8, Caliber SRT-4, Nitro R/T etc etc.
True... but they all have one thing in common. They can go straight really really really fast but can't do a corner well hahaha. Even the Corvette can handle the corner now better than the Viper.

I read an article in Automobile magazine about the FT-HS concept that debut at the Chicago show and how the article was talking about it will or might be the direction Toyota takes with its supposed next sports car. Obviously its just still a concept but the article mentioned that the top brass in Japan is very interested and aware that Toyota needs something to fill that true sports car gap in the line up. So hopefully in the not to distant future like 09 or something we'll finally see a sports car from Toyota and it will be a hybrid...
