This poll was on both Toyota and GM websites. I wonder how many people on this website took the time to vote when the link was posted here. I think the difference is that Toyota fans are less likley to take the time to do it.
For the sake of saving keystrokes, here is what I posted in the origional thread. I still contend that the GM fan base is more loyal, and larger. . .

Don't try and read anything into that. . . . I honestly believe that there are more die hard GM fans then there are Toyota fans.
One indication, aftermarket parts availability. There are thousands of aftermarket parts for GM cars and Trucks, and I'm not talking about wings, wheels and lights. I'm talking about hardcore parts like cams, intake manifolds, heads, headers, superchargers, lift kits, etc. I know these exist for Toyota, Nissan, Honda and others, but the shear volume of parts available for GM (and Ford and DXC) far exceeds that offered for Asian or European cars. Summit and Jegs are in the aftermarket parts business and for them to devote a "small" section of their parts catalog to imports is a telling statistic. If there were more interest in these parts, they would jump all over the opportunity to "make that money". . . .
Secondly, the majority of Toyota, Honda (to a lesser extent), and Nissan owners buy these cars as transportation, nothing more. All they want is reliable transportation, and Toyota and Honda provide that. These types of people are not enthusiasts, they are owners, and could care less about cars so long as it runs properly.
Lastly, I think the recent "domestic bashing" of the past 5-8 years has embolden some of the Domestic car owners. They often feel the need to defend their purchase, and in doing so, become very passionate about the car they own (and why they own that car vs an import). Right or wrong, these customers feel the need to somehow "explain" why they purchased a domestic car, when it is so trendy to avoid them. . . .
And I find the funniest part to be Keith Naughton feeling the need to somehow explain why his original column and the associated poll did not line up. After all, he admitted that it was not a scientific poll, so any type of manipulation could occur. Just because his original article painted an ugly picture of GM, he thought the poll would reflect the same. . . .it didn’t so now he has to somehow explain it (even though GM sending out an email is true). Toyota was free to do the same (as was the Toyota fan base), yet I think the results would be the same (due to GM employing VASTLY more workers, and GM’s fan base being larger).

"Toyota found the whole thing amusing. "If GM feels they need to do this, then let them rock and roll," says Irving Miller, Toyota U.S. VP of PR. "But if I were a general consumer and saw that lopsded number (in GM's favor), I'd say, 'this is crazy,' and not put any credibility into it."

Pretty sad for GM.

How is it any worse than someone on American idol asking her friends and family to vote for her? Its pretty much the same thing, no one puts much stock in these anyway.
I'm sure Mr. Miller would've touted the numbers earlier in the polling when Toyota was well ahead and not said "this is crazy"

Because the corporation cared enough about a dinky online poll to try and skew the numbers. The more you think about it, the sadder it becomes.
"Hey everyone at GM lets win this useless online poll!!!! I'm a GM PR and i find it's important to take the time out of my day to get as many GM employees as I can to vote in this poll that will be forgotten in 1 day. I want you to take time out of your day and help us WIN THIS POLL!!!!"
Now, if this poll was on live TV in front of 30 Million people, then i'd have respect for GM getting the vote out.

Or she just sent out an email because it was GM news-ish. I know my company sends out emails all the time about contracts we recieve and the company being in the press. It probably took her all of 15 seconds to write the email, and everyone all of 5 seconds to vote. I fail to see how its so sad.
I like how you claim GM has more "fans" yet their sales are in the toilet. And aftermarket support doesn't prove a damn. I'm sure there are companies that focus on imports and not the Big Losers..err I mean 3.

Hmmm, yeah it does. Since I am in the aftermafket business. I can tell you now. There are more companies that follow the big three than those that follow the import. And I am not saying that b/c I am a Big 3 fan. DOnt take my word for it. Check it out.
Lets take the hand held programers for cars and trucks. Do a search and see how many are out there for the imporst can then look for ones for the Domestics.
Here's another one. Go look for suspension kits to lift 4 wd trucks in the air. See how many they have out for the new Silverado and then look at the new Tundra. Alot of mfg havent even started to look at hte Tundra yet, BUT they already have them out for the new Silverado.
The thing to remember is that the avg truck owner is all about making that truck their own and spicin' it up so to speak. A reflectiopn of them. Hence the reason for all of the aftermarket stuff out there. Its a very competitive world and its a multi million $$$$$ business.
More Toyota fans than GM fans? Not even close...go to any car show and tell me how many Toyotas you see. You'll see plenty of spotless Chevelles, Camaros, Trans Ams, Corvettes, Impalas...maybe a Supra here or there. But I bet that true "gearhead" enthusiasts in the GM camp outnumber Toyota 4:1. Selling a Camry to mom and pop because they heard they were reliable cars doesn't make them "enthusiasts."
As for the poll, who cares...GM obviously has more employees, them voting is somehow "skewing" the results? It's an MSN poll for crying out loud.

I vote for Sanjaya (sp).
A silly MSN poll isn't worth getting uptight over. And there isn't a doubt in my mind that it's harder to get Toyota owners motivated (or even informed) to vote in an online poll of this nature.

I agree! What are yall getting so worked up about. You say that the poll means nothing, yet your spazing over the results.
