In no way would I suggest that the Tundra is the cause of GM and Ford decline, however I will say, it's nice to see Toyota expand truck sales (even into a declining market).
Hardly a "troubled launch" that some here would like everyone to believe.
That's really got to hurt for Ford, they were already looking large Truck production cuts, this will probably cement that.

At that pace though, it's not going to be 200K a year.

True enough, but as I've said before, no matter what the anechdotal evedence on these boards may be, supply is still constricted, especially 5.7s, and the Crew Max is launching soon, seeing much stronger ordering demand that Toyota anticipated.
I'll hold my victory speech (or concession speech) for a few more months. Just happy to point out Tundra sales are growing in what seems to be a rapidly shrinking market.

Ture, I think the next few months will be the key.
I was supirsed Ford was down so much, they have been giving them away down here. MSRP of $30K for Supercrews have been on sale the last couple of weeks for $19,999, or $18,999 if you finance through Ford
I actually got in a Tundra this weekend. Nice truck, when i closed the door it rattled and seemed kind of cheap, the only other thing I thought was strange was when I went to pull out a compartment, (I think it was the ashtray) it just came right out of the dash.
Oh and the thing I hate about Toyota dealers (at least the 3 around here that I go to every once in a while), is I NEVER can get anyone to acknowledge me. I looked outside for about 10 minutes looking at the ones out there. They were all locked so i went in and got in the one in the show room and spent about 10 minutes looking at it. Messed with the tailgate, opended the hood and looked around, NO ONE ever came up to me. I could understand if everyone was busy, but there were a few sales people standing around. Don't get me wrong, i've had that happen at other dealers too, but almost always without fail I have to go and ask for someone to help me at a Toyota dealer.
It'll pick up steam. Despite the early ad ampain Feburary Tundra sales were very, very shitty. Especially compaired to how well the Camry redesign last year took off within the first month of sales.
Now they just need people to start swapping over so they can sell 50,000 a month like GM.
What's always pissed me off has been how Ford reports F-sieres sales. Those trucks don't have shit to do with each other lol! 150 & 250 year, but passed that & the only common points are some drivetrain components & the crusie control that catches on fire. I'd just like to know what F150 sales are, and F250 sales are. That way people can keep apples with apples.

I think that's just a sales tactic for those particular dealerships you went to. The one I go to actually greets you and stuff. Personally I like to not be bothered by salespeople and fiddle with the cars in the showroom. If I have a question I'd go to them. I never like it when there'd be a salesperson that comes to bother you every 5 minutes or so, which seems like they're desperate, a very off-putting vibe.

Yeah, I don't really like to be bothered to much either, but I would like for someone to say something to me. Perfect salesman to me would be to come over and greet you, give you his car and tell you that if you have any questions or would like to drive it, 'I'll be right over there' kind of deal. Anyway I wasn't going to buy anything so no big deal, it would have really ticked me off if I was looking to buy though. I actually was looking to buy one day, was looking at the Accord (1998), no one helped me, i walked next door, and ended up buying an Intrigue.

I read somewhere that the end of the housing boom is going to hurt Ford worst of all. So many of the F Series were used in the construction of those spec homes.

so you bought a car thats actually not your 1st choice and have to live with it because of the service or lack thereof?

I was interested in the Accord, but since I wasn't getting any service, I thought I would go over and look at the intrigue. I ended up liking it pretty well, so i bought it. I wasn't locked into any car at that point, I just knew the Accord was a good car and wanted to look at it.
I guess I kind of said that wrong in my other post. If I had my heart set on an Accord I would have just went to another dealer and bought one, but I had never driven one at that point. I liked the Intrigue so I bought it.
My parents ended up buying a 99, and an 01 Accord, and I don't think I was missing out by not buying one, I liked the Intrigue better. I ended up not having the intrigue very long, my circumstances changed and wasn't able to afford the payment anymore, but it was a great car while I had it.
I think the whole 200K sales/year for the Tundra has been misinterpreted. The sales goal is to sell 200K in its first "FULL YEAR" on the market. I dont think they expect it to do it for 2007. It would be good if it did, but I would guess it might be more in line with 140K to 160K sales for this year, either way its a better truck than the previous generation which was selling at about 120K already, so it will definately sell more than that.
And all the talk of it taking over the entire market is dumb, since no matter what, Toyota can only eventually build 300K Trucks with its 2 plants, even if they want to, they can't be the #1 truck sales leader now. But if they continue to do what they are doin, the Tundra will eventually take the same path as the Camry and slowly but surely be on the top, unless the Truck market significantly decreases.

Well put. I think in the next 10-15 years Toyota would be content with being in the top 3 for full size truck sales.
