23 Apr 2007 15:25:09 Toyota is the world’s most valuable automotive brand with a value of $33.4bn (£16.7bn).
The Japanese manufacturer is the most valuable automotive company by some distance but is only ranked tenth overall in a survey by market research firm Millward Brown Optimor and the Financial Times.
BMW is the second highest placed carmaker with a value of $25.8bn but both carmakers are dwarfed by companies in the top ten.
Google is rated as the world's most valuable brand at $66.4bn, followed by General Electric and Microsoft, which have values of $61.9bn and $55bn respectively.
Fact Box

2. BMW ($25.8bn)
3. Mercedes ($17.8bn)
4. Honda ($15.5bn)
5. Porsche ($13.4bn)

Mercedes is ranked as the third most valuable automotive brand at $17.8bn and is 29th overall.
Honda, Porsche, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan Harley-Davidson, Volkswagen and Lexus are the only other automotive companies to feature in the top 100 listing.
“Toyota is like the opposite of McDonald's reinventing itself," said Joanna Seddon, vice president of Millward Brown Optimor.
"Its Kaizen policy of continuous improvement has taken it to a level beyond where anyone can get, both in manufacturing and in consumer insight."
1) The proliferation of Premium goods and companies clamoring to get a piece of the premium goods "pie". From coffee to cars, Apparel to bottled water, all of these companies are going after the Premium market. . . . this means there is a market for it, which means there is more disposable cash to be spent on luxury items. . . .
2) The emergence of China and India into the world markets, both importing and exporting. . . Huge growth opportunities for companies in these two markets. This is nothing new (i.e. old news), but still, a point well worth reiterating.
Anyhow, to bring it back to an "automotive" discussion, here is the full quote from the original source. Interesting the analysis that Chevrolet and Ford are not considered "damaged", but rather are more valuable that the company. . . .interesting.
"The story here is the strength of Toyota, Honda and the luxury brands, emphasizing again the importance of luxury brands for European businesses. Toyota is like the opposite of McDonald's reinventing itself: its kaizen policy of continuous improvement has taken it to a level beyond where anyone can get, both in manufacturing and in consumer insight. Meanwhile, the value of brands such as Ford and Chevrolet has not declined that much, given the companies' financial situations - the brands are stronger than the businesses, if you like."

OMG!! Toyota news in a Toyota Enthusiast forum??? What a crime!!! This is outrage!!
Don't you get it RAV?? The domestic fanboys don't like to see positive Toyota news (or any Toyota news at all) in this Toyota Enthusiast forum we called ToyotaNation. Don't you have no shame to be so proud at displaying the might of the Toyota brand?? Remember, you must only speak good of the domestic brands, regardless of whether it's true or not. Consider this a warning RAV

Did someone go off their meds again? From the 1 post (besides the original post) where exactly did engineer say anything even remotely negative?
Step away from the keyboard, and go finish your pills before you start rambling about government conspiracies and such.

From the grand total of 9 posts that you had, you've obviously missed out a whole lot for the span of almost 2 years of actions here.
Nonetheless, I'm here to keep RAV4EVR on his toes, reminding him that we need to mind the domestic fanboys here.
I don't take meds, but might want to try if you can hook it up
Government conspiracies? Now you're putting words in my mouth
OK, maybe the government conspiracies thing was a bit of a stretch.
My point was, as long as I have been lurking here, it seems there is some unwritten law that says as soon as engineer posts anything, the fan-boy auto-defence mechanism automatically kicks in, and no matter how logical or matter-of-fact his posts are, it is just assumed that he is bashing Toyota and a tirade ensues. heh But I guess that happens on every board. So when in Rome.....
