Thumbs up Cnn @ 9:25am Est

I heard this comment about Toyota based on the outselling of GM

"Most 'American' cars are built outside of America, however most Toyota cars are built within America, so its unclear what an 'American made' car is exactly..."

I couldn't help but laugh

Unfortunately, that statement is a gross exaggeration.

may be an exxageration, but gm is outsourcing to mexic and other places while toyota is moving in, at something like a planned rate of 2 plants per year or so as of late....so the distinction is going to be much harder to make in the future.

My point was, this person was throwing around the word "most" a bit too liberally.

I know this is the Toyota news section, so I'm not going to say much more for fear this is not the right place, but GM does still have 25 (or thereabouts) assembly plants within the United States - that is just vehicle assembly.

Congrats to Toyota, a "stated" company goal or not you know this puts a big grin on the Toyota execs' faces. A quarter year is a good feat....who knows what will happen in the next 76 consecutive years.

I just posted it because CNN saying this is pretty funny, considering the expectations I've heard about GM lately from that particiular network/channel

wow go yota: but as much as i love toyota i cant stand to hear people talk down Ford and GM in terms of market longevity. thoes companies started automotive history and have many more restrictions to deal with then foreign makers. unions, labor laws, wage laws(though necissary) all play a part of why they are hurting here in the states. but congrats to toyota

as far as i know, many auto makers(cept thoes in low wage countries) outsource production of components but assemble in house. its much more expensive to ship an assembled car then parts. GM, Ford and Dimler Chrysler all do the same thing as well as Toyota, Hundai and Honda. it just saves money. bisides, its to damn expensive to buld shit here in the states unfortunatly, thats part of the reason u get lower quality for the same price as a foreign car.
