new 1.5 released in japan?

This press release states new homemarket Ist (XD) 1.5 engine releases only129g/100km co2
http://www.worldcarfans.com/8070730....eased-in-japan
this is lower than current 1.5 emissions (compare to yaris 1.5)
http://www.toyota.co.uk/bv/1024downloads/Emissions.pdf
this most likely means the engine is all new as this amount of change would be difficult to acheive through improved catalyst.

Sorry guys, but that is still the same 1.5l VVT-i engine (1NZ-FE) as the Yaris. In Japan the usage of cleaner feul (less sulfar, mixed with things like biofeul and ethanol (I think) that makes the car clearer. Same reason why the J-spec engines creates default a little bit more horses then the export variants.

Gekko is right. That is not a new engine. It's the same 1.5L as Toyota has used for a few years now. If it was a new engine, there would have been a press release about it. We may see a new 1.5L with the Gen 3 Prius.
