Used to be that getting a manual tranny rewarded you with about 5-6 mpg better mileage on average. Any more though, auto tranny technology has advanced to the point that there's no longer that mpg gap. The only people who want manual trannys are either ones that want to save the $800 buying the car or want it as a performance option.

its also the feel of the vehicle...

there are auto trannies that shift WAY faster than any person ever could, however they're not as fun to drive...

nothing's better downshifting, rev-matching, and letting the ass come out JUST SLIGHTLY; executing the perfect left turn on your way to work....
