Is there a serious problem with the Toyota brand that all you loyalists know about by won't admit? Recalls are just business, although some are more notable than others, but a lot of you guys are taking it like this recall questions the credibility of the brand, and makes you uncomfortable... and who am I to disagree with all your gut feelings of brand insecurity?

hey... PG's back from the BMW forums!
It's not us but apparently others that love to take the recalls as questionable towards the "credibility" (as you said) of the brand.
It's all about perception. If GM has another recall, it's not the end of the world cause, well it always has recalls. I mean it's good that they're trying to fix things but it's just better if the problems were caught before the cars leave the factory.
That leads to Toyota which has a system that does catches problems before it leaves the factory. Thus, when Toyota has a recall, it's a big deal; not just to you guys but to us too.
