Toyota Tundra hit with two more quality issues

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/22/t...uality-issues/

Last Tuesday the Toyota Tundra was kicked off the Consumer Reports "Recommended" list for achieving below average predicted reliability scores from its own owners. It appears, however, that the Tundra's week is about to get worse. With the help of Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com, we're following two separate stories about Tundra quality issues that have surfaced recently.

Looking at the pictures, I'm very surprised at the poor design of those tailgates. A combination of thin-guage sheetmetal and what looks like glue holding it all together on the ends?

To put things in perspective, the GMT-800 trucks had corrosion problems with their tailgate cables, so......

Yes, but an entire tailgate must be harder to replace/cost more than just a cable.

Yeah, Toyota built the Tundra too much like the domestics. Shame on them.

Anyone on here having these kind of problems with their new Tundra? I say the tailgate thing a couple of days ago, but hadn't heard about the tranny problem. I would assume that the 6 spd in the Camry is not the same as the truck since it would have to be more heavy duty huh? But that is why CR took the V6 Camry off because of the 6spd right?

Well one thing we know for sure is that Toyota will look into fixing these problems quick. They will not sit by and just be happy with the things are like the domestics did for so many years.

Toyota did a disappointing job on their "important" vehicle of the history. I mean, if this is what they did to the most important vehicle, wonder what they did to their least important vehicles?

I think Toyota is finally going the old GM route. Junk..

Agreed...i would avoid the Tundra. They need to reengineer it. If I want a Toyota truck, I'll stick with the Tacoma...built by UAW workers because honestly, they're actually built pretty well.

Wow it seems like Toyota does really want to keep competition up by having plenty of problems like the domestics. No but really i've been really disappointed in the woes of Toyota lately.

It's obvious they truly are no better at random shit you don't expect to fail like the rest. Except for the part that they failed at something that shouldn't.

Wow, looking at those tailgate pics several points come to mind....

- The tacoma bending tailgate , which was very common to hear complaints about it in the tacoma forums for the new generation. So, big brother joins little brother in the party.

- Those tailgates look so flimsy and weak, fugly indeed.

- I wonder what would friends of mine or people would thought and said about my toyota tundra truck if they see it like that, probably confused or making jokes about toyota and my truck. (If I had one)

- Probably there arent many tundras affected, but even so, its a step backward, is not moving forward. The one thing good, taking quick action to repair those issues.

Thus far, nearly everyone that has loaded something heavy into the back of their Tundra (according to the TundraSolutions thread) has seen some sort of damage, and this is just a handful of people on a message board. For many people, this could very well be their first Toyota experience...not a good foot to start out on if Toyota wants to see repeat business.

God all these problems with the latest Toyota's are really sickening to me. It took 20 years for GM to recover from building crappy car after crappy car (and they are still putting out some mediocre products) and now it seems that Toyota could be following them. I have just put off purchasing a new Camry since they seem to have so many more problems than the Gen 5 (also looked at Sonata; nice, but not for me) I'm really disappointed in Toyota right now and I hope the new Corolla can reverse that trend.

I agree with you a hundred percent! I like Toyota but I'm disapointed in them right now. If I we're in the market for a car it probably wouldn't be a Toyota. Not to say Toyota is evil now and all the cars suck. They had a rocky start with the Tundra and somewhat with the Camry. I think the real culprit is the rush to market. Now Toyota is learning the hard way not to rush or cut corners, at least not too much which IMO is good! I guess the only car I like is the Yaris hatch. I guess I would like something different as I grew up with Toyota and had two of my own. I'm sure Toyota will fix things. They know how serious this can be. GM is getting better and I commend them on it, still have a ways to go but they are putting out better product. Would I buy it? Probably not but I do give credit where credit is due.
