Another Tokyo auto show come and gone and not a hint of a new Supra or a new Toyota Sport's Coupe. What is going on with the top brass at Toyota? How dumb are they? Don't they know the public wants these cars?
It doesn't make sense for Toyota to produce these cars because the profit margins on them are so small. If you want something fast, then you are forced to move upmarket to Lexus.
Hopefully things will change in the future when Toyota does finally reevaluate their goals, but I'm not certainly holding my breath.
I think the LF-A is getting reworked so that's not on display.

The rumoured reason for the no-show is because it is not fast enough! Supposedly, the top speed right now is 330 km/h (205 mph), but Toyota/Lexus wants it to reach reach 350 km/h (almost 220 mph).
Quote:
2007 Tokyo Auto Show: No Lexus LF-A. No Acura V10.
Word on the Tokyo auto show floor is that the Lexus LF-A supercar is a no show because it's not fast enough. Lexus wants it to reach 350 kp/h but it'll only touch 330 kp/h. That's 205 mph. Seems fast enough to us, but Lexus wants the LF-A to be faster than all its rivals. To reach the mark, Lexus has put the car back on the drawing board for an aerodynamics redo.

^^^Yeah that's what I heard as well. That's insane! I guess no one can say Lexus went half-ass on this one! They are truely serious, which is good! I would love to see how it would stack against the Veyron. Although I'm sure the Veyron is faster or just as fast. So guess that means we won't see a production version even longer! *Sigh*
Oh well. Better be worth it!

I still don't think the Supra will bow in the motor show till 2009-2010. Just my opinion, but I'm still certain it's under development after the Lexus LF-A bows in the next motor show.

Considering what the LF-A is supposed to compete with, the Veyron will still beat it rather handily as it does 407 km/h. 330 km/h is still really fast meaning its competitive against the McLaren Mercedes SLR and Porsche Carrera GT. 350 km/h means its up against the Enzo.
patience? there in the works of something, if someone didn't post these yet.. http://www.7tune.com/?p=112 http://www.7tune.com/?p=75 http://www.7tune.com/?p=63
only problem is if it'll hit the us market...they released the corolla compressor i think that was supercharged in uk and i thought it was pretty nice...but didn't make it over here..they're going hard at hybrid engines, and i think around 2020 all their line up is gonna be hybrids
I went to local dealer here in RI yesterday. I asked him if toyota is planning a new sports coupe. He said according to his toyota rep, toyota is planning 2 coupes in the next 2 years. The first if is what he called "a successor to the celica". He said this is the car being co-developed with Subaru. According to his rep this car should be debuting either at Detroit or Chicago early next year. The second coupe he said would be "successor to the supra" (again his quote) and probably will be shown in either concept or production around the 2009 auto show circuit.
Just a side note: I have know this salesman at this dealership for 20 years and between my family and I we have bought 8 new toyota's from this dealership and this salesman. So, I think to some extent I can believe what he is saying.

Yeah that's the 120hp, < 1,000kg sports car everyone's talking about.
The thing is, the rear looks like tC meets Fusion. (The US Fusion, not the UK one). Not exactly pretty. But the front is decent.
Hopefully the "Celica replacement" isn't Celica priced either (at least in Canada). It ran from $25k to $34k. That's well within Camry territory. First time buyers aren't looking in that range and can't afford a new Celica. Even if they can, it was pretty sparsely equipped.

yea i hope they do something with decent power...even hyundai is having their genesis and tiburon pushing over 300hp supercharged under 30k i think...but i guess toyota doing hybrid aint that bad? kinda sucks for us but gives them a head start to improving it...anyone read up about valvematic that toyota's doing?
oh yea about celica i kno their engine are in the lotus, but what's the story with it? i did a little reading and someone said that one of the guys hated honda and that their engine gave the car vibrations, detonation and spun bearings. Correct me if i'm wrong but just really curious why they switched

With Lotus I don't know if its cause someone hated Honda. I think its more cost reasons and knowing that Toyota is one company that has a high reving reliable engine, not to say Honda doesn't but I guess they figured an already production version (at the time) engine was already out why not go with...that's what I got from it. But I could be wrong.

If they're really working to make the LF-A a 220mph car, then I think it'd be worth the wait. How much would one cost in the US? I read somewhere that in China its over $250k... but then again a Lexus LS460 ($70k in the US) costs over $200k in other Asian countries such as Indonesia...

Why make a car that goes 220mph when the max speed limit on the highway is only 75mph? Wouldn't insurance be high also for cars with this kind of horsepower and speed?
