Toyota will soon introduce a hybrid SUV based on the Lexus RX 330. And we hear that it will set the stage for Toyota's next big hybrid project, a sports car. It makes perfect sense for Toyota, a global leader in hybrid technology, to create a sports car with a hybrid twist. The new-wave Toyota 2+2 (below) is rumored to produce at least 300 bhp, sending power to all four wheels, using a similar system incorporated into the RX 330.
The CS&S concept car displayed at the Geneva auto show was apparently a tease. Rated at only 145 bhp, the CS&S was created to gauge public opinion of a possible hybrid sports car. The reaction from the media and public was good, so Toyota may have decided to go forward with the program. This 300-bhp hybrid sports car would fill the void left by the Supra a few years ago. - SM

If torque actually won races, wouldn't we all be driving diesels?
But why? Who cares about saving gas if you have a sports car!@?!? Maybe cause electric motors are very torquey so you can get off the line quickly but I think the added weight would be more of a dissadvantage.

Hybrid cars are the future of ALL cars. When they start to com eout with hybrid supra's you'll like them. The weight of the fuel cells won't be much of an issue. The incredible levels of torque produced by the motors will be giving cars 0-60 times like no other. Just an example, the new Toyota Prius has over 250ft/lbs of torque, under 1500 RPM's. Not a race car, but you get the point. When the application is made for a sports car then it will be good. It will be very good.

it's called the t zero. there's a video of it beating a ferrari 355 on the internet somewhere. but who cares. i know for one i don't like the idea of a hybrid sports car. especially if it's going to be called a supra. for me, the supra will always be about the i-6, and a turbocharged one at that. who has ever told you that their heart raced at the sound of an electric motor at speed? i'm willing to guess no one. i don't know, call me a purist, i just don't like the idea.

250 ft/lbs?? Are you for real? Cos when I drive my pop's new prius, it's so frigging slow.... and passing power on the highway, forget about it.... i thought i had busted the tranny or something cos it felt like it was slipping!
The motor is the recharging mechanism. The motors would only be used when there is hard accelerating. The rest of the time, cruising at near constant speed the gasoling motor is using the electirc motors as generators.
