First Drive: Car and Drive raves about the Lexus LF-A. New Japanese Godzilla
With LF-A launch on the horizon, Lexus is proving to be serious going straight after Porsche and Ferrari while already establishing it as the new "Godzilla" by making a "GT-R killer".
Lexus LF-A is getting off the a very strong start with rave reviews on the pre-production test drives. A sonorous and screaming 4.8 Liter V10, a beautiful 9000 rpm redline, double-clutch transmission and 550+ HP while keeping the car only at 3000 lbs is the best formula to develop a street-legal race car. Finally, Lexus will deliver a knock-out punch in the performance world.
72 degree V angle. Hmm, just like their F1 V10, and unlike BMW's 5.0L 90 degree V10.
The 72 degrees helps even the firing angles on a V10, but also makes for a more compact engine, as the V angle is not as wide. It's no wonder it sounds silky smooth.

It seems Toyota did a "clean sheet" approach when designing its V10 engines, deciding not to base it upon any existing V8 design but designing it from scratch instead.
Did BMW design its V10 by grafting on an extra pair of cylinders to its existing V8?

It sounds completely bada** much more like a Carrera GT V10 rather than the BMW 5.0 Liter V10.

[RANT]That's good and all..... but why won't they just reveal the damn car already?
I don't think that all this excessive delaying is doing any good for creating hype.
I mean, it's already been active in so many races, why not just get it done and over with.[/RANT]
They plan to finally show a production version this October at the Tokyo autoshow along with the supposed Toyburu sports car. We'll see!!

True. But, this is not supposed to be a 911 competitor. It is supposed to be one step above the 911 line-up on-par with the place where Carrera GT used to be. Right now, it will be a competitor for the upcoming Ferrari F450.
Both cars sport a 9000 rpm redlines. What an amazing show down it will be.

Sorry but I have a feeling that Toyota is going to fuck it up just like they did with the 2nd gen IS, followed by IS-F. Not to the same degree, but it will be very, very far from perfect.
