For 2013 the RAV4 has undergone some major reconstructive surgery. The goal is to infuse a bit more life into this compact crossover that helped define the segment 17-years ago. Gone are both the V6 engine and 3rd row seating options. Thankfully, so is the antiquated four-speed automatic which has been replaced by a six-speed automatic.
The RAV4 still represents good value by starting at $23,300 for a base LE front-wheel drive model. Our test vehicle arrived in mid-level XLE FWD trim sporting the Display Audio with Navigation 5 and Entune which brought the as tested price to $25,320.
Paired to the standard 6-speed automatic is a carryover of the 2012 RAV4’s 2.5 L four-cylinder engine. For 2013 the inline-4 produces 3 less hp, now making a total of 176 hp, while still retaining 172 lb-ft of torque. Even with a minor weight penalty, the 2013 RAV4 front-wheel drive is not only faster in a straight line, but also features improved fuel economy thanks to six-speed automatic; 24 MPG city and 31 MPG highway compared to the 2012 RAV4’s ratings of 22 MPG city and 28 MPG highway.
I would like to know where Mike found an XLE with Navigation and Entune for $25,320. Around here (Oklahoma), a 2013 RAV4 XLE equipped like that is stickered for over $30,000.

The RAV4s they are driving are pre-production models for the press drives, and are not for sale because of that reason.

Just priced it on Toyota.com for 25,690 before freight and taxes....not far off.
The 30k is for the 4wd version. He was testing the 2wd as stated, "fwd" (front wheel drive).
I really like the new look. I will miss the grunt of the 2mz, as it made it more practical for towing a small trailer or boat.

Change is good. In this case, it is change for the better. Sure the Rav lost features like the 6, swing out door, and spare tire on the back, but it gained a 6 speed auto tranny, better rear visibility and a more quality oriented interior

One thing I hope they didn't change is the 4WD system, the old RAV4 actually has a very good one. Its one of the few items where the RAV4 is superior to the CR-V, the CR-V has a utter joke of a 4WD system that still hasn't been addressed in the new one.

I don't understand why Toyota doesn't offer "real" leather on the Limited model instead if this "SofTex" stuff.
Yeah, nothing says high end luxury like plastic/vinyl seats.
Looks like the XLE is the model to get, just wish it still had the V6. IMHO, it was a bone-headed move on Toyota's part getting rid of that engine option.

Cost. Simple as that. Leather would be more expensive. I honestly wish Toyota/Lexus would offer certain cars like the IS with cloth interior again, like they do in Japan.
