Marketing off the Name

What do you think of toyota marketing off their name. And making everything cost so much. I remember you used to be able to get a corolla Le for like 10-13k and now its in the 15-16k range. Which is only like 2-3 from the Camry Le?

Do you think they should charge more cause its a toyota, or keep it cheap so more ppl buy for the bang for the buck?

They are so much bigger though and come with more standard options than before (I believe). My b/f got a new corolla and we compared it to a friends 98. Big difference and more technology standard.
I'll spend the money for a toyota...I still think you're getting what you paid for. (except the paint)

wow, North America really does have an odd car market. Here in Australia, the Corolla has actually dropped in price. When we bought what is now my 95 new, we paid $25k for it. Now, a base model corolla with all the fetures my top-of-the-line Limited Corolla has is $19,990. But then, that is to compete with the Nissan Pulsar and Ford Focus, which also have that price tag on them.

You think Toyota uses its name to market it's prices higher? How about BMW, Volvo, or Mercedes?

I agree with Lauren. I think the increase in the sophistication of the vehicles has driven up costs, along with inflation obviously, and new competition in the marketplace.

Funny how few people consider inflation to be a critical factor in their lives. When you add 2-3% per year (compounded over 4 years) the numbers almost add-up.

Add to that the fact that each generation of Corolla is bigger, better, and includes more features than it's prior generation. It appears to me that the cost of these cars is actually LESS today than it was back 4 years ago.

Oh yeah - marketing costs big bucks. Everyone does it and includes it in the cost of their vehicles. It's a inevitably vicious circle of entertainment.

I don't think Toyotas are over-priced at all. Let's say you buy a 'rolla that is good for 10yrs - that's only $2K/yr for a reliable mode of transportation. Reasonable if you ask me. If you take good care of it, it'll last much longer than 10yrs.

there's always base models, folks...

of course an XLE V6 camry will be expensive (30k range)...

but a cheap-o LE 2az-fe with power NOTHING (including under the hood ), then you can have yourself a low priced car, combined with those dealers on TV's offers

Toyota spent YEARS building their name with mechanically overengineered cars that last forever. They made sure that people, without question, would know that anthing with a Toyota badge on it would run reliably and trouble free AND they did that while keeping their cars relatively inexpensive. Toyota had/has very good long term planning. They forgo the funk and flash for lasting impressions, and now, they are reaping the benefits. Just as Volvo is marketed on safety, Toyota is marketing themselves are reliable cars for life. I completely give them madd props for this accomplishment/achievement.

Now if they could only get better designers and market research people....

Toyota markets their name more than you think. But not in the way you are thinking. If you ever go down to Mexico, you will see Lexus Stores. With the actual Lexus Emblem. They are in more than just cars

Inflation has also driven prices up. The cars are nicer, they are bigger, more power. And each year has to cost a little more than the last. To move out the old model and get the new one in.

$13,000 isn't bad for a car. Not at all

Exactly! And especially if it's gonna last you a long time! Plus Toyota has great warranties, I bought my b/f the gold package warranty for $899! He will probably trade in the car before it even expires! They sold me on the reliability!

I didn't mind paying it...he puts a lot of miles on his toy...and when he goes to sell it , he can figure in the rest of the warranty. He works his car hard and puts almost 80 miles a day on it. I say it's worth it!

Actually, customers who come back after their warrenty is up is how they make their money.

Extended warrenties are the best thing you can do. If your car has an problems later on, you are covered for it. You still have basic stuff covered. And when you sell it, you can ask more for the warrenty, or cash it out and have a little extra cash.

I wouldn't buy a new car without getting one
