05 Tacoma Tranny Problems?
Help! I've had my '05 Taco for about a month now--and have put 600 miles on it. They've made major changes to the tranny (5-speed automatic) since my '98 Limited. It's all computer controlled now, and I guess they've tried to make it smart enough that it adjusts automatically to each individual driver's habits. There's not even a place to check the fluid any more. I'm told they started doing this in -03. In any case, I've found what I think is a pretty serious problem/flaw. I've been told that all the new trannies do this, but somehow I can't believe it. I'd sure appreciate it if someone else could confirm or deny it for me. If you have an 04 or 05 automatic, try this:
Gradually speed up to about 25 mph. Stop short (you don't have to lock 'em up, but stop quickly) then accelerate again.
When I stop short, my tranny shifts into neutral, and it takes about 3 seconds to shift back into 1st. When it does, I get quite a jolt. Does anybody else's do this?
