Scion's iM Concept Car Prepares for World Premiere at L.A. Auto Show
October 22, 2014
Torrance, Calif., Oct. 22, 2014 – Like any new star about to step out on the world stage in Los Angeles, Scion's new iM Concept car is taking some test shots. The photos, also debuting on Instagram, reveal the distinctively sporty front end of the car as it gets ready for the spotlight. The iM Concept car reflects the evolution of Scion as the needs and desires of its youthful customers also evolve. Fans are encouraged to join the conversation at #iMDriven.
Scion's Los Angeles Auto Show press conference will be held Wednesday, November 19, at 3:40 p.m. in the South Hall.
Thoroughly cleansed of our time at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, we can now start looking forward to the next big show on the circuit (with all due respect to SEMA), the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. One of the earliest new cars slated for LA is this, the Scion iM Concept.
Now, these teaser images don't show us terribly much. We can see the headlights, foglights and wheels. The little information we can glean indicates that, based on the short hood and minimal space between the front door and front axle, the iM will be a very small vehicle. That said, a very low ride height (and Scion's own press release) claims this will be a rather sporty offering. The concept's nose and grille, meanwhile, bears some resemblance to Toyota's most recent stylings.

Cross your fingers it handles better than a Corolla.
European Racing Circuit Styling and Hatchback Versatility for Scion’s Adventurous Audience
November 12, 2014
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 12, 2014 – Whether it’s exploring the mountains or playing at the beach, Los Angeles offers adventures off every freeway. Young people just need a vehicle to get them, and all their gear, to their destination in style. The new Scion iM Concept car is designed with that in mind and will debut on Wednesday, November 19 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The iM Concept is a five-door compact hatchback with sporty looks inspired by those seen on the European touring car racing circuit. The concept brings in captivating styling with edgy, geometric grille inserts, deep air intakes and fog lights. The custom-blended “Incrediblue” paint is complemented by matte silver and gunmetal accents.
To create a grounded appearance ready for the road, the iM Concept has wide aerodynamics and a lower ride height. The performance inspiration carries through into the 19-inch forged alloy wheels and sporty performance tires. Vented front rotors and 4-piston calipers work with the adjustable height racing suspension to complete the racecar-influenced design.
“The tastes of today’s younger buyers have evolved. They want a car that provides excitement and individuality, as well as the comfort, technology and reliability that Scion offers,” said Scion Vice President Doug Murtha. “The iM Concept combines sleek styling with the versatility of a modern hatchback to catch the eye of Scion customers. Stay tuned for more on how we will bring this vision to the road.”
Scion’s press conference will be held at 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19 at Scion’s display in the South Hall.
doomed? you've seen the xD, right? anything's a improvement. If this is nothing but a rebadged Auris, it's doomed. A bodykit and 'younger' badge won't save it.
i think it had to do more with other things than just the bigger engineAnd the last time Scion added a bigger motor sales went down. The old xB was a great seller. The new one with the 2.4 not so much.
The facelifted Toyota Auris has gone on sale today in Japan with a new turbocharged petrol engine and a new safety package.
The compact hatchback features exterior and interior updates as well, first seen on the European-spec model which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. Toyota has also created a new trim for the Auris in Japan, the high-end 120T.
The 120T grade is exclusively offered with the new turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.2-liter direct-injection unit which produces 116PS (114hp) and 185Nm (136lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a Super CVT-i transmission.
Thanks in part to the standard Stop & Start function, combined fuel efficiency is 19.4 km/l (5.1 l/100 km). Toyota says emissions are at least 75 percent lower than the 2005 standards set under the Japanese government’s Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles, which means the 120T grade is eligible for the Japanese government’s subsidies and tax incentives for eco-cars. Other engines on offer are a 1.5-liter and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder units, both naturally aspirated.
Standard features of the facelifted Auris include a specially designed instrument panel with wood-grain finish, as well as seat fabric made from a combination of Ultrasuede, leather and artificial leather. Standard equipment also includes cruise control, heated driver and passenger seats, and an auto anti-glare inside rear view mirror.
Like the facelifted Corolla, the refreshed Auris is available with the brand’s newly-introduced Toyota Safety Sense C package of safety assist systems, which uses both a laser radar unit and a camera. The package is standard on 1.2-liter turbo and 1.8-liter models, and is available as an option on 1.5-liter models.
Prices start from 1,789,855 yen ($15,030), with the automaker expecting to sell 1,000 units per month in Japan.
No wonder the iM has a kit - its a rebadged jdm Auris!Speaking of which, the JDM Auris got a facelift (which is our iM) and that new 1.2 L Turbo engine
Honestly, I like the previous look better.
