They are a gateway to USENET newgroups, which are basically public mailing lists which people used to use to communicate way before the internet was in it's "modern" form.

Ah, I get it. I imagine that those people have become a tight group, and that is why they use those instead of the general forums?

swegyptian: they dont see the rest of our forums. they only see the messages in those forums in their newgroup browser application or website. they don't see the rest of our forums. but yes, they are a tight knit group i suppose. newsgroups are pretty much obsolete, but it appeals to "old school" computer users and people with slow internet connections. we decided to integrate them so that we can further the body of information that we have in the TN archives. the more technical info the better right?

blue: only we see the sig and avatar, they don't get transmitted to the newsgroups,
so to them they dont show.
