Can I ask you a question Cap'n?
If we censored swear words (which we are capable of), would seeing f*ck or f**k be any less offensive than see the word fuck uncensored? The facts are, people will always find ways around simple word censors. sh1t, a55, b1tch... i could go on forever.
We have had this discussed before, so this isn't the first time it's been brought up. But try to understand how I see the issue, and let me know what you think.
Thats what makes TN... TN. I think it could/should be a little more strict in the main forums. But I don't think censors are needed. I think it would be a good idea to keep it confined to OT, maybe GenDiscussion because we normally go off topic or have crazy arguments in there anyways. MRQ is pretty good about keeping people in-line in the MR2 forums.... we don't have many problems in there. We stay pretty civil.
I personally do not swear so I don't really like reading it. Some people just throw it in for no reason. If one can't express themself without swearing, that's pretty sad.
However, that being said, it's something in this day and age we shouldn't censor...as long as it's not geared towards people, it should be allowed. I rather ban porn than swearing. Instead of saying holy shit, I rather say Good Gravy!
Maybe an optional filter can be set on TN? Like safe searching on Google? That could help a bit.
well all i can say there are no 8 years on the fourm , and we all know of the words.,,,,,, i do swear somtimes on the fourm , but for real u can do any thing for it , it will take 50% of the fun out of tn , (the other 50% is porn)
Ratko, perhaps the mods could enfore rule # 7 a little more. I dont think that setting up a filter would fix the problem, but the mods could.
If someone uses a swear word in a post, the mod could edit out the word or words and PM the poster reminding them to use appropiate language. If that person continues to use swear words furthur action could be taken.
I just think that swearing is really unneccesary. You can make your point without having to say f-this and f-that...

What's the difference between an optional filter and the mods editing, oh yeah, they'd have to read every thread then. This is the internet and swearing is by far the lightest offense I think you'll see. Maybe you can get an extension from norton to filter ALL text that goes into your machine? For crying out loud, one of the best things about TN is freedom to do/say what you want as long as you aren't personally attacking anybody or posting porn in the public areas.
i understand that gratuitous swearing can be offensive/classless. but who are you to tell me that i can't drop an f-bomb when i feel the need. i'm recalling one thread where Captain_Toyota told a kid who just got ripped off by the people who painted his truck (it's still new in the truck forum) to keep the swearing down.
this is what the kid said- "no it was only for paint and some bondo, nothing serious, but we think they fucked with the engine because my mom called bitching and pissed of the manager, but i was thinking it was the timing chain cover and such."
the kid dropped one f-bomb and one bitch in 41 words. losen the sphincter dude
censorship sucks.
