I decided to stick with 205/55/16. I never even looked for 215/50/16 before but I'm sure if I can find 205/55/16 (which was hard enough) then 215/50/16 shouldn't be bad. Anyway I'm not gonna worry myself about that for now.

Go with the 205/55/16's. 215/50/16 are a tougher size to find and will cost more. The 205/55's are actually a popular size for 16 inch rims, I see them on cars all the time. Whenever I look for 16" tires, I usually see that size first.
I'm riding 215/55/16 because I have a V6, the 10 mm makes a lot of difference in the handling characteristics. This is a tough tire to find as well, the more popular size is 215/60/16.
You won't have to worry about potholes, the sidewall is still pretty big, especially on a 16" rim.
