AE92 I should just get a new car *56k Bad*

Just thought I should share, you can see my car, which is the total opposite of a show car, it sports TONS of rust.

There you go, I'm starting to really dislike this car other than when I'm driving it....

after i bondo'd my moms van i decided rust isnt worth it unless its like some old sweet car thats worth restoring. if i were you id get another car (depends how much money you have though) if youve got alot to play with id get as much as i could out of that car by selling it and get something sweet otherwise id sell both those cars and get something temporary that doesnt cost too much and you can get about the same amount of money back once you can afford something sweet... but thats just me

Yeah, It was my intent to begin repairing the front half of my SR5 this winter, and get it looking nicer. My plans were blunted when I began to jack it up, the floor is so rusted I'm afraid I'll punch holes in the undercarriage. I'm going to be driving my red sedan until it plain quits (it's actually MORE rusty) and then this until it quits, and by then I'll be able to afford one hell of a MKIII Supra

Been there. The Cressida was worse than your SR5. That was the reason behind its retirement - it didn't exactly die.

here, this is what I meant by my late Cressida's rust:

http://www.2759.ca/images/rust1.jpg
^ that's already been bondo'ed over once, and has broken/bubbled up for the second time...

water leaked in the front windshield AND rear window, totally not cool when it rains

driveline slack was bad... vibrations too

oil on plug #3 = likely piston rings

the list went on. Lesson learned: wash your car. I was a youngin so I didn't know the difference, but 9 (at least) straight salty Ontario winters with maybe 1-2 washes in between is NOT conducive to a good paintjob without rust.

Repin, I think I have you beat with my red car....

The red car was purchased new in 1991 by my parents. They're lazy when it comes to taking care of cars hence the rust. My SR5 I got used because it was a good price on a dependable car, especially after an inspection showed engine oil leaking into my coolant. The red car is doomed to die anytime now, and my SR5 is waiting out the winter until the red one stops running. My next car I'm going nuts in my anti-rust efforts...

edit: I forgot to mention that the metal of the doors have separated from the rest of the door on the bottom, you can shove things into it from the bottom....

Cressida was maybe that bad without the bondo, except on the front fender flares My parts car (also an '85) was that bad too.

Did rust claim any one of your control arms? It happened here.

Rear sway bar end link bolts once broke clean in half upon routine inspection.

One of the dust shields on the front brake discs rotted right off.

The Cress also had a full size spare. It was mounted upright on the left side of the trunk. Take out the spare tire and you were able to stick your hand in the well and touch the left-rear tire

So yeah man, we both have/had beat-ass Toyotas. Mine drove like a dream right to retirement, though. Watching my dad drive away and pawn it off to get $75 at a garage felt like putting a pet to sleep.

those of us who own the ae92 know that unless you get one from the sunny states all of them are going to look like that !! i had to do the same and i was in your shoes i just didnt give up ! i am still fighting it to this day (if you seen my cardomain site you will see that im in the process of repainting again) and yes my floor is exactly like yours but nobody will notice that stuff we simply covered it all up and it wont go away... so your options ! if you really love the ae92 get one from a sunny state other wise plan on keeping up on the paint even if you repaint it !! that or get a whole new car.. now some of you say that like he has money ... believe me if all us old school corolla owners had money im pretty dam sure we wouldnt be driving these cars

am i right or wrong
