Yeah, that was a sh*tty day for me... The Camry had a major boost leak (first I suspected it was the turbo), and only made 12 psi. For that day, I only ran a 14.4 @ 106 mph...ROFL
After I fixed the problem, I IMMEDIATELY went back to the track and reclaimed my times!
I cruise with the Porsche and M5 guys quite often... Soon enough, you will see an official video of Camry vs Porsche 996 Turbo (X50). It's going to be a close match because we both trap at the same MPH, but won't you guys want to see a Camry just staying right beside a modded Porsche?

I bet that guy with the 996 was shocked when your Camry can run behind it. hahah
BTW, what exactly is "X50"? I know it involves more FI then it already is.

"X50" is a slight chip upgrade (with a retuned intake manifold I think) that boosts the horsepower from 420hp to around 450 (torque is up to around the same number as well), while maintaining the warranty.
With all due respect, Tony's Camry will get raped if the race with a 911 (not even talking about the Turbo) happens on a race track. Having said that, the Turbo costs an arm and a leg and all the sellable internal organs, Tony's Camry Turbo probably only costs an arm and a leg Even then, it's pretty amazing what a boosted Camry can do when it keeps up with the best from Germany.
Porsche + Toyota = the deadliest combination since World War II

haha that "slight chip upgrade" probably isn't cheap!! LOL
is the non-turbo 911 that fast??

Actually, X50 consists of a turbo upgrade, a higher flowing exhaust and a reprogrammed ECU... The X50 doesn't run on the original turbochargers... the Porsche guys told me this, and I was like no way, so I did some search on my own:
Here's a quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_996 An "X50" upgrade package was available from the factory in 2002, increasing power to 450 hp (336 kW) through minor revisions to the turbochargers and engine control software.
Here's more on MotorTrend: The substance of it resides beneath the Turbo's rear wing in the form of modified turbochargers, larger intercoolers, and more aggressive engine-control programming.
If the race track consists of all straights and one turn, I could win Even still, we are talking modded Porsche's... I can beat it now on the highway, but all it takes is a few mods on the Porsche to get me back. On the other hand, my Camry is literally maxed out But of course, my Camry's total cost up to date is under $30000, but I am not here to compete in some bang-for-buck comparison. I like my Camry because you can't even buy one for $100000 (unless I sell it ), and the fun I get surprising people is priceless.
Anyway, I don't get why you'd want to compare my Camry to say a good handling sports car though because quite obviously, 468 WHP to the front wheels and a 4000 RPM stall automatic isn't going to like any corners at all. With high stall automatic, you lose all sense of engine braking and feel disconnected to the car whenever you start plowing through the corners. Mid corner acceleration is poor, and there is no snap throttle response to save you in emergency situations.
The Camry is mostly a straightline runner, similar to say a Chrysler 300C SRT-8, or even a GS430, something along the lines of big power big torque family sedan that is fit for spirited street driving (and still with decent cornering and braking) and with good creature comforts. Key word is looking good but with the power to back it up. I don't road race the Camry and I never will; I know better not to use something for a purpose that it is not meant to do in the first place.
If I were really desperate to beat the 911 turbo on the road course, that would be the job for my next project car -- turbocharged Z06 (coming next year ) But I got a feeling that it would become some 10 sec Z06 rather than a roadracing car anyway; here in Toronto, we get sh*t for road racing tracks and there is no room for a 911 turbo vs Z06 to battle it out except for Mosport; which unfortunately, is way too professional with crazy concrete barriers and insane admission fees.

True, as I said, "an arm and a leg."

Well, let's put it this way. Obviously there'll be a few exception (and the new 911 Turbo is one of them), but if let's say a race track only consists of tight corners and minimal straights, the lap time differences between a regular 911 and a 911 Turbo wouldn't be far off, given the same skillful driver with similar performance tires. Sometimes less horsepower works to one's advantage, but only depending on the situations. If a track has uphills and long straights, it's a no brainer the non-turbo will lose out.

Thanks for the info. I didn't double-check the web as I typed out what I said off the top of my head. I know there's more to it than just a simple chip upgrade.

It's also the niche factor as well. It's not surprising that a Porsche is fast, but who'd have thought a (turbocharged) Camry can have exotic cars costing many times more for lunch regularly? Not many. Hence I love your Camry because of that.

Don't worry Tony, I'm not really comparing your Camry to an actual sports car like the 911, since it's not apples to apples. I'm just merely stating factual common sense, since others do like to compare your Camry to other exotics per say; just stating the obvious that beating others in a straight line doesn't justify it to be the faster car in all situations. But I must say, 468fwhp must be hella fun

Especially with gas prices (and cost of tires too) nowadays. Hence you got the boosted Teg for track racing

Wow, a turbo Z06, can't wait to see that from you. As if the regular Z06 isn't enough of a beast already
