My fuel pump went out on my Silverado so while it's in the shop my dad's loaning me his '01 Tacoma SR5 Prerunner. It doesn't have the same ride as my Chevy but it has its pluses too.
Hmmmmmm..... not sure I'm diggin' those rims, but, hey, to each his own. So what do you think about the Taco compared to your Silverado that's in the shop?

My dad's a little old school... hence the wheel choice. I like em though.
I'll say this about the comparo.... although the Tacoma is a nice truck, I can't wait to get my back Silverado. The Tacoma is a lot more stiff and you feel every bump in the road. In my Chevy, it rides smooth and the suspension absorbs most of the road. There is an obvious difference though with the Taco being a Prerunner (4WD suspension) and my Chevy being a 2WD suspension. The steering in the Taco feels a lot more firm than my truck in that the Chevy has more play in the steering. When I turn the wheel in the Toyota, the truck turns immediately. The transmission gearing in the trucks is also a big difference. The Toyota has the 3.4L V6 and my Chevy has the 5.7L V8. The Taco seems to have a little more drivability though in the gearing (meaning when I drive it like an old man, the Taco seems to accelerate better than my truck). When you give the two gas though, the Chevy will leave it in its dust I'm sure.
The Toyota's styling and the fact that it's super clean and has been taken care of (anyone with a red vehicle in the SE will tell you red doesn't last well here) gets a lot more looks from other drivers on the road. The Chevy... not so much.
It's kind of hard to ask which one I like better because it's not really a fair fight. The Chevy is a full-size pickup and the Toyota is a light duty truck. The Chevy is wider, heavier, and sits up to about the same height as the Toyota equipped with 4WD suspension. Kind of like putting your best AAA baseball player up against the best major league player... although the AAA player is damn good... it's not really easily compared.
I'll say this though, I like parking the Toyota 10x more than I like parking my big honking Silveardo.
The Chevy mentioned is in my sig for those not familiar.

I have a 02 Double Cab Tacoma and your very right about the firm ride. My dad drives a 02 Tundra and when we trade he always complains about the firm ride and the hard steering. I love my truck though, its how a truck is supposed to be in my point of view. I always offroad so its perfect, its not to big for those tight trails. My pops Tundra sounds just like you Silverado, smooth and very car like.
I forgot to mention, Its also kind of weird to me that you have the big truck when your dad has the sporty more young truck.....I dont know just my 2 cents. But anyways I'm glad you like the Tacoma.

Yeah my dad has always had light duty trucks. When I grew up he had a Blazer and a hand full of Sonomas... I've always been into the full size thing.... I wanted to bag and shave this but that isn't going to happen.
