Since I see a lot of others showing off their wax jobs, it made me want to wax my truck! Since you guys were the inspiration i figured id show the results to ya. I didnt mess with the wheels or anything, i just wanted to test the wax out. My wife also decided I should do her Civic. It isnt very good paint to begin with so i wanted to see how it would turn out too. Pics below. Oh, I used Meguiars NXT Generation Tech wax.
when i did my truck, it was kind of hard to tell if I was getting all the wax residue off because its hard to see on the silver. When I did my wifes car, i noticed i had to put a lot more effort into getting it all off than I was with my truck. So there might be some slight residue on the truck left over, but i cant tell. Would that hurt anything? Just wash it again and use a polishing rag after drying it?
Meguiars is good stuff. I have used Meguiars on my vehicles for many years and have always been very satisfied with the results. As for the wax residue, you could hit again with a buffer...if you have one... or if not, just hand buff it again. Since it had more time to dry, it may come off a little easier.
If the wax is hard to remove then you're probably applying it too thick, or applying it on top of hot paint.
Spraying a mist of quick detail spray on it will make the wax easier to remove.
I don't think NXT gives much depth. There's lots of other waxes I'd pick. JMO
which one would you recommend thats just a simple wipe on, wipe off type like this?
is there much difference between the paste type and the liquid type? This wax also seems to make the truck static clingy. Grass clippings were jumping up to the rockers when id walk by and kick them up
With synthetic wax, paste or liquid doesn't really matter.
If it's a natural wax (carnauba) then I always prefer the paste version. It has more carnauba content in it.
For off-the-shelf wax I would go with Mothers Reflections and Mothers Reflections Top Coat. PepBoys carries Mothers Reflections. Or go with Meguiars Hi-Tech paste, aka Meguiars #26.
A spray and wipe of quick detail spray will sometimes get rid of that static cling affect.
I double coat my truck in #26 then Tech Wax, but the tech wax is almost out, and i'm looking for a replacement. I'm thinking about going with #21 Meguiars sealant since i've heard some good things. Ugh...there's way too many products out there.
The wax I would use would be Zaino. Wash your truck first with Dawn soap then use a clay bar and clay the whole vehicle to remove the road grim imbedded in the paint. Then apply 2 coats of Z-2 and two coats of Z-5 and finish it off with spray enhancer. You will find that this wax has no residue and is easy to remove and shines like no lother on the market.

Don't go crazy with the Dawn soap. IMO it's a little harsh to use on automotive paint. Once in a while might be OK, but I prefer to leave the Dawn in the kitchen. Just claying and polishing will remove any old wax.

X2!!! ('cept I just finish w/ 2 coats of Z-2- the pepto-bismol lookin stuff. No Z-5.)

If you apply the NXT, it amazes me at home much it removes minor surface imperfections, better than any other wax I have used. Now if you really want that depth, you need to NXT it, then use the Megs #26, and I couldnt have been happier with the results. I havent dont it on the Taco yet, but did it on my F-150, and it looked amazing!
