New computer (56K, make some coffee)

Couldn't stand my old computer (athlon xp 2100+) anymore. So it was time to upgrade to something modern.

pc power & cooling silencer 750 quad
--------------------------------------------

lian-li pc-v1000 plus ii
----------------------------

asus p5k
-------------

ek fc-8800gts
------------------

intel core 2 duo e6600
---------------------------

2gb corsair xms2 ddr2 1066
---------------------------------

evga e-geforce 8800gts (640mb ram)
---------------------------------------------

^ factory cooler removed for watercooling (ek fc-8800gts)

swiftech h2o-220 apex ultra
----------------------------------

^ cpu waterblock

^ video card with waterblock

^ reservoir

^ pump

coolant is pentosin g11 with 2 drops of biocide (copper sulfate)

http://www.petrastechshop.com/peg11coadb4o.html

http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html

I have to say that watercooling owns. CPU is idling at 22C and video card is idling at 34C.

I live in California, where it gets hot (100+ F) in the summer.

It runs cooler then my old rig which is nice.

Since you don't want to know, I'm going to tell you.

$1800+, thats not including other parts like hdds, optical drives (dvd-rom, etc..), monitor, etc... Watercooling and the high end video card added alot to the price, but thats the price for performance.

Its quiet, unless I crank up the 2 fans on the radiator. I have them on a fan controller cranked down all the way, which is around 8.5V.

I've also ran them at 5V as a test and its silent, but theres not much air going thru the radiator.

The pump is running full bore and its quiet. Same with the 2 other fans (back of case and front of case cooling hdd).

P.S. I ran 3DMark06, you can see the results at the link below whenever the site works.

Just seeing the Intel Duo Core 2 6600 and the Asus Board, I immediately knew it's a computer well over $1500 already. Just those two costs over $1500 easy. Nice set up. I also would of done it as well, but I only had $400 to work with back in high school and built my computer with that. Of course, I gradually upgraded as the years go by.

Towers still comes with a 3.5 floppy drive? I thought they got rid of those since flashdrives were introduced.

3 years would be nice but gamers can't last that long with old hardware gamers have to upgrade before that to keep up with the nice visuals the new games come out. Gotta say nice choice even though I'm an ATI gpu type of guy those nvidia gfx cards are the shit.

Now that cpu is waiting to be overclocked so crank it up lol.

How'd you watercool your Video card? I have a non-watercooled BFG Geforce 8800GTXOC with stock cooling and doesnt look like there's room for it...

You'd have to find a compatible waterblock, it just replaces your stock heatsink and allows you to put on an aftermaket one. But then, watercooling is only necessary when your going to overclock it.

Nice setup by the way, how high do you think you'll be able to get it?

Not really some people get it to run a silent computer while letting it be cool.

It's cool to build computers yourself, you can build a fast computer for much less than buying those pre-made shit. Did it many times and it's soo true.

Wish engine building was as easy as building a computer then I would have a camry that leaves evos in the dust in no time haha.

Maybe your thinking of the core 2 extreme, but its not $1500 though.

Yes.

I have a 3.5" floppy drive, but I'm not using it. In its place is a fan controller.

3 years is along time computer hardware wise. I'll upgrade again when this rig gets to slow.

As for ATI or Nvidia, its personal perference. I've had both.

I've never really been into overclocking, so I'll probably just leave it at stock speeds. I'm sure I can get some nice overclocks with the cpu and gpu being watercooled, but I'm watercooling cos I want a cool and quiet computer.

Now when is Crysis and Quake Wars going to be released?

Remove the factory cooler and buy a waterblock for it. You also need a pump, reservoir or t-line, radiator, hose, and fan(s). I suggest a reservoir over a t-line as its easier to fill and bleed the system of air.

You can buy a watercooling kit or piece something together. I bought a kit and the video card waterblock seperately.

BFG has 2 8800 GTX with Danger Den waterblock already mounted.

Room wise, video card with waterblock is smaller then video card with factory cooler. The factory cooler is huge.

For the waterblock, you have full cover blocks which cools the entire card (gpu, ram, nvio chip, and voltage regulators) or a block that just cools the gpu. With blocks that just cool the gpu, heatsinks are used on the ram, nvio chip, and voltage regulators.

GPU:

^ The 10 black rectangular pieces around the GPU are the ram. Theres 12 of them on a 8800 GTX (64MB x 12 chips = 768MB).

NVIO chip:

Voltage regulators:

^ The little black rectangular components with 4 legs coming off it are the voltage regulators. Theres 12 of them.

I bought my stuff from petras tech shop, crazy pc, newegg, and directron.

crazy pc: case and watercooling kit

newegg: cpu, video card, and ram

directron: motherboard

petras tech shop: video card waterblock, coolant, biocide, and sata cables.

I would of bought the watercooling from jab-tech as their a little cheaper then crazy pc, but they didn't have it in stock at the time.

Motherboard I would of bought from newegg, but they didn't carry it at the time.
