He's been having some terrible luck. He originally bought his dads 2001 Subaru Legacy GT sedan (auto), fully loaded. He took a turn a bit too quick and faced what's called "lift throttle oversteer" and ended up wrecking it by smashing it into a tree. After that he got a 20 year old chrysler kei car that his grandmother was kind enough to give him. Then he started to learn manual but his mom wouldn't trust him to get another car so he was forced to go with an SUV. This was about when he got a 5 speed 96 rodeo...Ended up having to junk that because of rust issues. Got another 5 speed rodeo, a 92 this time, muuuuch worse. Luckily he only had to keep that for a few months until I came across this gem on ebay a few days ago. He just picked it up from jersey yesterday. Really pumped for him because he loves subaru's and so do I, this car is just perfect; 5 speed, sunroof, clean as all hell, absolutely pampered. We started to put in an aftermarket headunit today (one that had been in both of his rodeos).
edit: Please no comments about how its a granny car
just tell him to go slower around turns. What you can "lift throttle oversteer" sounds to me like inexperienced and wreckless driving, its a station wagon not a performance car, like my rolla, lol i joke about the last bit, sorta.
Well it was indeed lift throttle oversteer but yeah it was caused by his inexperience in driving AWD and he was going a bit too quick. Keep in mind this was in his legacy GT sedan, not wagon. Also..I would have to say this GT wagon is more of a performance car than your corolla S...no offense of course. My aunt has a corolla S, pretty fun driving it. The newer ones have the 1zz from the celica gt correct?
They say that a big percentage of drivers when asked if they drive good? answer back saying they are good drivers when in fact they are not hmmm... funny definitely driving out of control and he's using an excuse to cover up his horrible skills and it happen more than once yikes and this is with AWD no bueno i guess the saying doesn't work for him "AWD-making bad drivers good" lol... seriously tell him to do that crap in the track dont ever take chances in the street!!!
That's not bad luck... That's just horrible driving skill.
Sorry I guess I wasn't clear enough. The bad luck was that he had to drive absolute pieces for 2 years before he could get a decent car again. Do you wanna drive a half red/half rust isuzu rodeo with just about nothing working because you can't afford anything better?
Bigbird-I'm on it! He's got some good plans for this car.
For all those saying he is a bad driver, he has admitted countless times that he was driving like an absolute idiot that day (over confident with new tires). People make mistakes. Since then he has had lots of practice driving rwd with his rodeos, awd in his sisters (two sisters, two cars) forester and legacy and his moms legacy (pretty sweet driveway). He's driving this car very carefully, he wants it to live as long as possible.
legacy wagon FTW!!! my brother had a green one just like that but it wasnt the GT. I really love those cars, if i were to ever rock a subaru it would be one of those with a version 7 swap, coilovers, and some sick volks. You can really make those cars sick, thell him to check out NASIOC if he hasnt already... keep an eye on those headgaskets too, I hear from my brother (subie guy) that they suck on the GT

congrats, that thing has a lot of potential IMO!!
Good looks on the NASIOC tip. I love those forums. The seller claimed the headgaskets were already changed which was one of the main selling points for my friends because his sisters legacy had the headgasket problem already and his other sisters forester's head gaskets went just a couple days ago.
although the aftermarket is a bitch ... just like for the camry
but IMO these engines are easier to boost
the interior shot isnt of the gen3.5
somewhat true, but subarus are like legos... youll find that almost all wrx parts will swap over to that car, including the STi engine and transmission doesnt get much better than a drop in with that kind of power and aftermarket support! there are also plenty of JDM goodies for that car, you just have to find them...
^ yeah, thats true ... swaps are as easy on a subie as they are on hondas
but thats because all of the H-4 engines are basically the same thing + turbo (and some other bits) ... ive thought about a WRX/STi swap in the Outback in the future

You're probably right. Then again, she only uses it for getting groceries and hauling her two kids around like Toyota intended. She stopped racing it years ago.
