So the story goes: My dad has a 2004 GTO. It rained here a week or so ago, and since it's the desert, when it rains, it floods (betcha thought I was gonna say pours huh?). My dad drove through a puddle that was deeper than he first thought (who hasn't heard that one before). The car ingested a bunch of water, and it stalled. My dad attempted to restart the car, second poor decision. The sound that happened next was not good. So, anyways, the insurance paid for it ($100 deductible, bastard). I picked up the engine today, so I wanted to share a few pics of the carnage.
Toyota hauling a blown up Chevy motor. Ha, the irony.

And, finally, all that is left of the connecting rod:

Actually not really. The roads out here have no drainage but they are crowned so the water just pools on the shoulder if present and in the right lane. Since the roadway is generally lower than the sand on the side, the water cannot really flow off the roadway. Instead, the sand, or mud, will flow on to the roadway.
The storm on Nov 30 scared the hell outta me driving 40 MPH on a 65 MPH roadway because of all the water causing hydroplaning and the low visibility from the water kicked up by other cars.
This was on CA-62 going from Palm Springs towards 29 Palms.

This was actually in a residential neighborhood. The drainage channel was ful of weeds, so it didn't allow the water to drain. I measured it afterwards in my truck and it was 24" deep. This really didn't suck too bad, because he got a new engine for $100. When he scraps all of the aluminum, it will probably be free!
actually water is fine, just not through the intake and what have you .... water is the purest coolant, so through the coolant lines its fine if youre not worried about rust

it must have been something in the rain water because this is what happened to my 22RE in that same rain storm.
i was out in the desert and hit a puddle that i have gone through a few times before. well this time it was about twice as deep as it was before and the water was over the top of my front bumper. i hit it at about 30mps and my truck bogged, went BANG a few times, and then stalled. im not as lucky though because mine has cost me about $1600 for a new engine.

Wow, those are some wavy rods. As for the heads, we have to take them off and see if the loose piston hit them at all. If not, my dad will probably put them up on his LS1 forum, but let me know if you're interested. The heads are about all that's worth saving it appears, unless you need 7 stock rods and pistons.
