hdr attempts

these are my first HDR attempts. they're fairly subtle HDRs but i wanted to see what you guys think.

the colors look really strange on the first two

what program are you using to merge the images into HDR? and what exposure settings are you use for the 3+ pictures to be merged?

oh, and in terms of photography in general ... most people try to avoid taking shots that directly expose tire tread ... one of the many reasons why people often turn their cars & wheels

photomatix is alright for HDR, but i still prefer to use photoshop cs3. feels more versatile.
colors of the 1st two just look a little too warm.

to me, its the other way around

Photoshop CS3 (and CS2 - i use CS2 on my desktop, but CS3 on my laptop) does a bad job of merging, and CS2 is really glitchy about it ive noticed

i like to merge and get a baseline tone map in Photomatix, then touch up in Photoshop ....

this is all assuming that you want to put at least 1 hr into picture editing, which i usually dont

i got two more to add.






I'm using Photomatix 2.5 Pro to merge and edit the pictures. These were taken at +/-2 exposures. Camera is a Canon 20D with a 24-70mm lens. Shots were taken at f/2.4 i think. So far, the last picture of the amphitheater garden is the best one.

Looks good. The car looks kinda plastic; like a static model rather than a real car.

just to clarify ... are you using -2 and 2, or -2, 0, 2 .... because if youre only using 2 diff exposures, i would recommend using at least 3 (ive used as many as 5 or 6 depending on the circumstances)

ive used up to 6 as well, but depending on the picture, maybe you wouldnt need to do hdr on it.

sometimes proper editing can result to h hdr-looking image even with just one pic. i know ive done it before.

curves, levels and sharpening are your friends

lenny, i'm using -2, 0, and +2...so three images. the canon automatically takes three at that given exposure range, so it makes my life easier

what lens are you using? you mentioned 24-70, wondering if thats the 24-70 f2.8L usm?

^you sir are correct. that makes one of my posts above wrong then. i shot them at f/2.8
