My Photography - Discussion and Picture Thread for TN Photography Enthusiasts
I've been into photography for a couple of years now and originally started out by using a small point-and-shoot Kodak camera. Since then, I've upgraded to a Canon EOS 450D DSLR and experimented with various types of photography. One type that I'm particular fond of is HDR.
Here are some photos that I've taken over the past year. I posted some of them a while ago in an HDR thread that someone had made last year, but have decided it's best to start my own thread and update it whenever I take new ones. Comments and criticism more than welcome
EDIT: This thread has now been turned into a photography thread for all members of the forum to participate in. Feel free to post any photos that you've personally taken yourself. A quick tip is to resize them to around 800-pixels before uploading, as this will drastically cut down on loading times. If you've got any questions, feel free to send me a PM

My brother-in-law and I got into HDR about a year ago and are still experimenting with it. He's still doing quite a bit with HDR, but I'll be honest and say I'm waiting for HDR "in the camera" to come down in price below $1,000 before I shoot it regularly. That's just me, but I really admire the work that others like yourself are doing.
Of the pictures you posted I like the last one, the sunset shot. I like your composition and subject matter, but IMO the shots are too dark and need to be brightened. That's my critique, warts and all. By all means post up more when you've got them...I love HDR!!! All in all, nice work!

Thanks for your comment man, much appreciated . Quite a few of the Canon DSLRs have a built-in AEB setting for well under a grand - Such as the Canon EOS 1000D. The 450D is coming down in price a lot now, since it has been superseded by the 500D and 550D. Good to hear that you and your brother-in-law are into HDR too. Addicitve isn't it?
Here's some more HDRs:

I'm wanting to get into photogrphy myself. I only have a Nikon Coolpix S550. I can find nice things to take pics of, but theres always something that don't seem right, certain conditions I'm not happy with before taking a shot.
I like the railroad pictures and the rusted truck and dilapidated structures.
Wow......calling those photo's spectacular is an understatement. I LOVE these types of photo's. Same as what I take, except mine suck, haha.
Thanks a lot! . Haha, I'm sure yours don't suck. I spent a lot of time practising with HDR photography, and there were hundreds that were deleted straight away. The more you take, the more you realise what works and what doesn't.

The beach shots are my favourite to take. I agree about how HDR really accentuates the clouds. The polarizing filter helps a lot too

Cheers dude. I know the feeling - Sometimes I have to return to the same scene 2-3 times (sometimes more) on different days just to get the right cloud coverage etc.
For these particular shots, I went back 7 times in order to get what I was after:

I have several friends that do photography/editing, and have been tol dI have a good eye. My problem is I do not have a good camera, and if I did, I don;t know enough to use it in manual mode. :-/
These are a couple I have taken myself (Car one is edited by my friend). I think you and I like taking pictures of the same things. I'll have to keep checking back in this thread to see your work for sure. Just shows me a reason I need to learn more skills.

^ Nice! I particularly like photo 1 and photo 4. It took me a while to be confident enough to use full manual mode too, but now it's all I ever use. Keep it up!
Here are some non-HDR shots I've taken:

^ Nice experiments. The selective colour in the last one is cool. One of the hardest things I've had to learn about photography is the panning technique when taking shots of fast moving vehicles etc. I still haven't mastered it, but am slowly getting there. The trick is to use a relatively slow shutter speed and take the photo whilst panning the camera as the car speeds by. That way it leaves the car perfectly in focus, while the background and wheels are blurred to give a sense of speed. Unfortunately it's a lot harder than it sounds.

For the drifting ae86, I actually love how it turned out. My main focus when I took it was to have the car centered and clear while everything else stationary is blurred. But from the result, the blur from the front of the ae86 blends it in perfectly and gets clearer towards the rear corner. The offset of the ae86 to the right partially off screen really accentuates everything.... a "fast moving" picture.
Yea, the last one, my old canon could do that. My more expensive nikon can't. I'm planning on selling my nikon s550 for a canon model.
