Ghetto Sub Testing Setup (56k Warning)

Now that my midrange speakers have been ordered and shipped/to be installed, I've begun focusing on subwoofer options in case I am not satisfied with bass from my Infinity Kappas. I'm currently running a Pioneer DEH-P80MP headunit and wanted to see what kind of potential I had w/o an Amp. So for my test, I grabbed my extension cable and threw my computer sub into the trunk! To my amazment, it worked perfectly on the first try, and it makes the whole car rattle and shake! Here's what it looks like:

Headunit:

RCA Cable Hookups:

Power Cord:

Cabling:

The Sub:

I am still a little confused as to how subwoofer cabling works, and I'm not sure if I'm going to need an amp or not when I do eventually install a sub. My headunit is advertised as able to power a sub, and since I really am not too much of a bass junkie so a basic 10" will suffice. Go ahead and leave feedback and suggestions!

lol

and yes, you will need an amp.
I don't think ANY deck can actually have the power to power a sub (but I have no idea about your HU).
many are advertised as 4x50w for your speakers or what not already, but that's not RMS, so you're probably looking at around 10-20rms max, and that's basically not enough to power a sub.

the really good headunits don't even come with an internal amp and only send out signals for you to amp

I see, tis a shame. My deck is a supremo-good Pioneer, it has 60x4 Peak and 36x4 RMS, so it's basically the highest wattage in a deck that you can find for less than $350. I loved how easy this was to set up, so I was thinking a good product may be the Infinity BassLink powered sub for easy installation and keeping in step with my infinity speakers.

na, just buy a power inverter. convert that 12v DC to 120v AC goodness, no need for an amp then!

now THAT would be ghetto!

YESCA is selling his unused BassLink for $160 something ... pm him for details.
