What's your definition of a basic car wash? If it's running the car through the autowash, then that's your problem. Quit being lazy, just grab a bucket, water, soap and sponge and use a little elbow grease. Don't use a razor, or buy any extra chemicals if you haven't tried this first. I apoligize if this was in fact what you meant by basic.
Yup that tar, sometimes when it gets really hot the tar fomr off the street gets all gooey and spins up. It always happen her in Belize since it's liek always hot.
i have that shit all over my wheel well. i dont bother taking it off from there cuase there's no point but when i gets on my car i buffed it out with some coumpound
PEANUT BUTTER...seriously. if the tar isn't to old, put some peanut butter (smooth, not chunky) on the tar, and rub it off with a very soft rag or cloth. it may seem weird, but it i would bet that you have some in your house, so its better than bying some compound at a store.

Well my definition of basic car wash started as a drive-thru auto-wash and after that didn't work it turned into scrub it nice and good in the driveway, so it's gonna need some more effort than that. Also, it was already on the car when I bought it used, and it's hard to avoid hot days here in Minnesota anyways. Time to start trying different suggestions you guys had!

Yeah, in your case the best thing to do is what others have said. If you wash a car by hand once a week, then the tar should come off easy. But you say that the car came with that shit on there, so who knows how long it's been there. Unfortunately that shit has a tendency to not wanna come off for the longer it's been there.
