Uhm, thats not exactly how it is. Headers are made equal length, so that the exhaust pulses are timed, so they come out in an orderly fashion, so that they dont crash into each other and disrupt their flow out of the pipe.
Having less compression on the engine isnt applicable, the engine wont have to "push them" out anyhow. Headers only sound louder, because most people put assed out exhaust pipes with them.
