USA 2007 Solara

I have seen several "spy shots" of the 2007 Camry. Does anyone know if Toyota plans to revamp the Solara for the 2007 model year? I love my 2001 Solara convertible (115,000 miles) with the exception of the boot for the convertible top. 1) I am not a fan of how it protrudes up 2) I wish it went on automatically like that of BMW and Volvo c70.

Don't know about the '07 update but I agree with you about the top boot. My '02 has the same setup. What a royal pain to deal with. Then if you're not using it you have to store it somewhere, preferably not in the trunk which is already a bit small but that's the price we pay with convertibles. Other than that, I am very happy with my car.

nope, nothing new of '07 most likely, as a redesigne isn't due till '08, thatll make it 5 years since this body redesign. But I thought I read somewhere that the solara is going to be replaced, so the current gen may be the final gen of the solara

now I'm just takin' what you've said about the solara being replace just a step higher...what if toyota plans on replacing the solara with the supra? do you think that is too much? too far? cause they could have a two trim supra...like a GT and a GT-s...you know? something along those lines...

just a thought...

^not conceivable. the solara and supra have two totally different target markets and seeing as how the supra is never coming back (toyota has never brought a model back to life after it was discontinued, never), that definitly isn't going to happen.

I think Toyota brought the MR2 back to life with the Spyder.

The Gen2 Solara is just not selling very well. Less than 50K / year and going down each year. This is too bad as I love this car.

The replacement will not be the Supra. I've confirmed that a supercar project is active in engineering, but the details are closely guarded. It appears the supercar will not carry the Supra name. I'm sure it won't carry the old Supra price either. Although, the sounds of a V-10 is interesting. I'd be fine with forced induction on a V-8.

I'm not permitted to say what the Solara replacement will be, but it's not the same target market as the current Solara. The new car will launch in TMMK in August 2008 as a MY2009.

I have heard that the new camry will still use the same engine, 3.3L, but the horsepower will be boosted up. So I am assuming the 07 solara will get the redesinged 3.3L with more horsepower.

The currents Solara came out in 2003. Then carried on to 2004, then 2005 and now 2005. Thats 4 years. After 2007, The Solara will be redesigned.

EVERY 5 YEARS, A TOYOTA/LEXUS/SCION(Subaru) IS redesigned!!!!

i like the current solara..
wasn't there a concept photos of an orange vehicle?
the Toyota GT or Volta or something?

EDIT: here it is...http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/volta.html

don't think that this will be the solara replacement...but rather the car
that Phreakdout was mentioning?

Toyota will bring names back

Fresco Bob

For example. January 2006 the.... "drum roll please" - FJ - name is coming back, in the FJ Cruiser. Also I saw that the CROWN nameplate will come back as the replacement for the Avalon or the Camry. I am betting on Avalon. Either way Toyota of "North America" see's the benefit of bringing back the great names. So I can see the Supra returning, just in a more marketable car. Especially if the customers "US" keep asking when will the supra return?

Current Gen2 Solara came out as '04 model. '05 and '06 are pretty much carry over. '07 will likely be a freshened up model. If the Solara were to stay around, it will be redesigned for model year '09... but from what I've heard (try www.solaraguy.org), the Gen 2.5 Solara will be the last.

2nd Generation Gen 2.5 Solara and Next Gen Camry

Gen 2.5 will come out next fall. According to someone close to the details, it will get LED tail lights, updated front bumper, grille and headlights. The 3.3L engine will remain.

The Next Gen Camry will get either the 2.4L 4cyl or the 3.5L V-6. (Not the 3.3L) I expect a mid-model change on the next Gen Camry to see a new 4cyl with slightly larger displacement.
