How many miles is everyone getting on a full tank of gas? I have a 5spd v6 and I'm averaging 255-280 miles per every tank...I'm not sure if that's good or not...I spend like 40 bucks a week and I don't mind dishing out the money but I'm starting to wonder if somethings wrong with my car...it doesn't seem like I'm getting very many miles per gallon...the most I've gotten lately was 284 but that was a month and a half ago...
I get about 375-400 to a tank in the city with the air on every now and then. If you are in the 200's, thats not very good. Try cleaning out your filter and go easy on the go pedal.
I definitely need an oil change and I guess while I'm getting that done I'll change out the air filter...the tires look fine but I might need to check them out anyway...the thing that blows my mind is that when I drove the car 450 miles about a month ago, I barely used a little more than a quarter tank...would you think there was something wrong with my gauges? bc if that was correct that would be an insane number of miles per gallon...I don't get on it much at all...only from time to time, when I'm caught behind a slow person...usually I keep my rpms below 3k no matter what gear I'm in...I'll just have to get a tune up or whatever...I have no idea when the last one was and it might be a good idea to just get another since I just rolled over 20k miles...hopefully that'll take care of the problem...
I bought my car brand new and Ive been getting 18-23 mpg. Its rated at 19mpg city and 23 highway I think. I dont drive like a crazy person, only once in awhile. Oh this is an SLE V6 automatic 2002
also...up here in Alaska, they don't have 91 octane, and I read in the manual that 91 or higher is recommended..is this hurting my engine in any way? I try and use that cheap ass good for nothing octane booster bc it supposedly ups the octane 1 point so that would in turn mean it's a 91 but I doubt it's helping much...anyway, I have heard some pretty weird stories about not using the recommended octane...but I can't help it! I hate this effin state!
You said youve only got 20K miles on you sol? Hmmmm..... In the manual in my car it says 87 octane or higher and also I heard Sol's were rated at like 21 city 25 highway mileage. If what Ive read is correct, something is up. Maybe it could be your gauges but Im not sure. Just when you get an oil change get it checked out. Good luck to you
I'm getting the same problem..... I have a 2000 SE w/ 5SFE ... getting a 4 cyl on a 3500 lbs vehicle was very dumb by the way... anyways, I'm using a 91 octane and on the highway hitting about 20MPG, but in the city it's close to 16~17MPG. 90,000 miles on it... Time for a major tuneup, guess I'll check the engine compression too, that's what might be the problem in my car...

For sure. My 5S-FE Solara is getting 35+ Hwy and 25 City. There has got to be something wrong there man.
