removal of rear package shelf

I have an annoying knocking sound that sounds like it's coming from the seat belt mechanism right below the rear package shelf. The Haynes manual sucked at explaining how to take the shelf off. Once I take out the plastic pins that face the front of the car, and then the 3 screw-in doohickies around the speaker covers, how the hell does the shelf come out?

gotta take off the upper trim pieces on the side too. Take off the seatbelts and hook, should slide forward and out.

thanks...I thought the trim had to come out too but I was hoping there was another way
