suggest a mod

so I just got my mom's 2003 SLE last week. I love it so far its quick! anyway i want to mod the thing now after seeing your cars. Right now its bone stock except for the sticker for my school I put in the back window

I dont have a huge budget, but if you were in my position and had say 200 dollars to invest in the car, what would you do?

Also, im not sure I understand the "generation" thing. What is that all about?

is it a V6 or a 4 cylinder? My advice would be to start on suspension first before anything else. 200 bucks might not get you much though. probably half the suspension amount. 500 dollars will get you the full suspension. Intakes that are carb legal here in CA will be around 200 bucks alone for a short ram from injen. Good Luck.

If you want your car to be more enjoyable to drive (better handling) your 200 should be able to get you a TRD or Whiteline Rear Sway Bar (rsb). In case you dont know what that does, its a replacement for your stock rsb, and it makes your car handle a lot better than stock. You know how when you take a left turn fast, your car leans a lot to the right? Well a thicker than stock rsb will help you avoid that.

Other than that, maybe save up to upgrade the sound system, or if you want to change the look of your car you can lower it. Itll look 1000x better than stock, even on the stock wheels.

As for the generations, the solara first came out in 1999, making it the first generation. In 2002 they changed the headlights/grill, tailights, and some little stuff on the inside. In 2004 they came out with a completly redesigned solara, making that the second generation, which will be the last generation because toyota will not be continuing to make the solara after the gen2 is done.

Since your on a certain budget. You have 3 Options in drop.

Eibach Springs: $220 Drop Rate: 1.6 front/rear
Teins Springs: $150 Drop Rate: 1.7 Front/1.4 Rear
Intrax Springs: $220 Drop Rate: 1.8 Front/Rear

Shocks/Struts:

KYB Sealed Struts GR-2's: $260
Tokicos HP: $350

But like Fresco Bob says, since you only got 200 and if you really want a mod at this moment, the TRD sway bar is the way to go. $150 Shipped. Best bang for the buck.

Good Luck,
Calvin

The rear sway bar goes underneath your car, between the two wheels. Its not just a straight piece, but has lots of bends. It will not void your warranty as it is a toyota product (the TRD one at least). Ive heard a lot of people say they felt better increases in handling from the sway bar than lowering, but everyone is different.

The car looks pretty clean btw, and if you want it to be cleaner, all the badges are simply glued on (no pins that stick into holes in the body) so all you need is a hair dryer and some dental floss to take em all off.

no offense, but this guy sounds like he's fairly new at "modding" a vehicle. maybe you can purchase those new Black housing headlights on Ebay. they're around 200 shipped and IMO, they'll change the look of your vehicle to a more aggressive style.

in all honesty, that's what i would do if i only had 200 and limited experience with upgrades.

(i'm not tryin' to be offensive here by the way...)

With 200 bucks I would get some Springs and CUT them in half, Install them and Have one low solara, and that would be aggressive.... Not Headlights, LOL, What up Krook??!!

hey....those headlights add 10 hp lol

seriously though, i would do the suspension upgrade.

I only do appearance mods when someone hits me, or i accidently hit someone. thats why my only mod right now is clear corners on my gen 4 cam

If your mechanically incline do some research on the suspension thing. Its not hard to drop your car, but you will need to hold on to your $200 bucks and save for more. I dropped my solara for $600 bucks (springs and struts) cause I did it myself. If you lower it you should replace yours struts cause it will cause them to wear out. Some people may have another opinion on that, but I think its better to be safe than sorry. For more info check out solaraguy.org There is a bunch of info on there.

If your not mechanically incline and dont plan on doing much, Id just get black headlights, tint the windows, or get the sway bar. Good luck!
