Why does my Solara Roll back when stopped on a hill ??

Whenever I have my 2000 Solara stopped at a redlight on a hill, I have to keep the brake pedal depressed because otherwise, my car will roll backwards......... how can this be ?? This is an automatic.......... not a clutch !! Any ideas if something is wrong with it ?? THANKS for your replies !!!

because the torque converter stall speed is not as low as the rpm that thenegine is running. there is slippage in teh transmision(normal) when at idle(or any speed for that matter). It is completely normal. Unless you raise the idle speed, which cannot be done, it is going to happen.

it is a good idea to keep your foot on the brake with the auto tranny... even if you don't roll back on those hills... since otherwise you are just heating/stressing the system

at least that is as i have been told
