Grill question

My grill looks like crap - half the chrome paint (or whatever it is) has come off. What's the best/cheapest way to fix? Can I just take the grill off and have a paint shop paint it black?

youll be best off taking some sandpaper to the chrome stuff and leaving it just painting black.

What grade of sandpaper? Should I take the grill off first?

Itll definitly be easier to take the grill off first. Theres a couple of screws on either side and some clips on the bottom. Probly start with a rougher sandpaper to get all the pic crap then go to somthing finer to the paint will have a nice finish.

be careful with sandpaper. I've heard people having better success using paint thinner and a pressure washer. I used a dremel to strip mine and it's been a pain to sand it evenly...

same here, tried to use dremel on the center line that goes to the emblem, and almost totally F*&%ed it up. Barely got it to even out more or less....

Bite The Bullet

Hi, I'm new here although I've been lurking for a while. The chrome on the Solara grilles seems to be a big problem and I can understand everyones desire for an inexpensive solution. There ain't one. The OEM grilles are just too pretty to mess with anything else. I just bought a new one for $115 wholesale, didn't care for the aftermarket ones. With a bit of care you can reuse the Toyota emblem. Just my 2 cents worth.
