2000 SLE Disc Brake

Hey, I need to replace my disc brake pads. The discs surface is still nice and flat and smooth. Think I need to cut and resurface them or can I just changeout the pads? Anybody just replaced their pads without cutting their discs? Any problems with squealing or chattering?

Depending on the condition of the rotors, you can replace just the pads without turning (resurfacing) the rotors.

I only got 26K miles but most of it is city driving. Not much highways and byways in Hawaii. Well, the rotors look flat and the surface is smooth with no grooves. I'll try to replace the pads first and see what happens. If it start to squeal, I guess I can take them off and get the rotors resurfaced then. Or will I have damaged the pads by then?

If the rotors are smooth you can change pads without turning. BUT you should break the glaze from the old pads first to get the best braking. Just use a piece of fine emery clothe (not sandpaper!) and sand/polish your rotors for a minute or two. Sand across the surface not round and round. One or two trips around the rotor, both sides, ought to do it. Then just clean it up with some brake cleaner and youre ready to put in the new pads.
