Broken trunk latch
I popped open the trunk of my '99 SLE yesterday, and the remote trunk release lost its tension. That is, it wouldn't snap back to the floor.
The trunk then refused to latch shut. The lid would simply bounce off the bottom.
Eventually, I took apart the top section, and detached the remote latch cable--simply popping the cable out of the lock assembly. The lid closed and latched just fine, so it's obviously a jammed cable.
Question is, how feasible is this to replace? Dare I tug on it with pliers to hope to loosen it, or do something else?
The twist: about 7 months ago, the car was in a slight flood, which got inside the cabin (a couple of inches in the floorboards). Salty water, yet. I suspect, without proof, that corrosion might be playing a part in this remote problem. Any thoughts? How might this effect repair?
I do wish to get rid of the Solara, but not quite yet.
