Unhappy rear noise

My 50k miles 2001 solara sle is making a rattling noise at the right rear end whenever I go over bumps and even on minor street imperfections, it is more noticeable at low speeds. I checked the suspension and it all looks ok. brakes, struts, muffler, all ok, I removed the back seat and emptied the trunk to no avail. Dealer says to replace the struts but they work and look fine. Does anybody have any ideas?

well, My wife has a 2001 Solara, and relayed to me that during the last month she has started to hear a new rubbing sound coming from the passenger rear tire/wheel...Took it to a certified Tos shop and they say the wheel bearing is going bad, thus the rubbing noise... After parts, and labor as they have to replace the hub as it is part of the bearing assembly, grand total will be around $480....But, it's got almost 106,000 miles on it, so it's been a good car for my wife with very minimal repair issues....Hope this helps...

I'll bet dollars to donuts it's the right rear strut. My wife has this exact same problem on her '02 Solara - in fact I was out there last night trying to convince her it wasn't the jack, spare tire or other "junk in the trunk" rattling around. It's definitely the strut.

Now I just need to research how to R&R it and find a good place to buy a strut!

I wonder if this is a common failure item on the Solara?

check your rear end links the link that connects your swaybar to the strut... sometimes they come loose and will make that noise, if theyre secure then its your rear upper strut mounts... this is a common problem with camrys of the same generation, camry and solara suspension is EXACTLY the same. hope that helps!

Its your sway bar bushings or your Sway bar endlinks. I have 165K on mine and the endlinks are still fine. I replaced the Sway Bar bushings (Availible from Oreilly Auto Parts for $9.00) Those solved the problem for me. By the way these are very easy to replace and took me 5 mins for each side.
