finally getting rid of it...

Motor Trend is reporting that the Solara will not be updated, but rather retired...I own an 01 Camry (Gen 4.5) -- we had leased an '03 (gen 5) and HATED that car--it looked like a Buick. I love the new gen 6, but was not sad to see gen 5 go. SAME goes for the Solara...gen 1 was cool--gen 2--looks like some kind of piece of junk that Pontiac would make...not sad to see it go, at all!

BUT, there's a rumor going around that Toyota is going to fill it's spot with a crossover based on the FT-SX concept (see Toyota.com). OK, I just made the comment yesterday that the Ford Freestyle is just a dumb looking purpose-less car...now Toyota is about to make one. The Highlander might be a crossover in that it's built on a car frame, but have any of you ever noticed how much ground clearance there is on a Highlander (ones without running boards)? It's several inches--in fact, it's about the same as a standard 4Runner. Unlike the Pontiac Aztek (ugliest car ever), the Buick Rendezvous (2nd ugliest ever) -- these have so little ground clearance it's ridiculous. SO, Toyota, please don't do what the American car makers are doing and make these dumb crossovers. Toyota is in the shape it is because it hasn't saturated the market with too many models like the Big 3...why start now?

Motortrend was the first source i heard about where the FT-SX "replacing" the Solara. I guess they want the majority of would-be Solara buyers to buy the FT-SX, whenever that comes out. I agree with u on the the designs of the 1st gen vs 2nd gen Solaras. THe first was soooo smooth and kinda sporty and aggressive. THe 2nd gen looked kinda like a blob, no offense to you guys. However, i like that it has the shift-yourself 5 spd. auto and those Optiron gauges (hoped I spelled that right)

Yeah, seriously--by the way, I love your Camry -- that generation was actually one of my favs. in terms of style shape and design. I own a gen 4.5 but before I bought my '01, I actually looked for a 96 (which was gen 3) with two tone gallery edition paint (white/beige) and sunroof--never found one for sale so I bought my '01. Love my 4.5--even love the new gen 7's--BUT--not gen 6. Toyota Camry, generation 6 ('02-'06): the car Buick designed. Engine=awesome; looks="BUICK"!!

By the way- one of the other reasons I don't like gen 6--not sure if anybody has had this experience but I actually had my '03 (we leased an '03 Camry and have sinced turned it back in and bought a Highlander) spin out on I-4 in Central Florida; the brake system on my 2.4L 4cyl were aweful--the car was too big/heavy or something...panic braked one day on I-4 when somebody had cut me off and it sent my car into a spin out---wasn't even that dramatic of a moment...have had worse in my '01 with no problems. I decided that day I was NOT a gen 6 fan!

There is no Gen 7 Camry yet. We are on Gen 6.
1983-1987(Gen 1)
1988-1991(Gen 2)
1992-1996(Gen 3)
1997-2001(Gen 4)
2002-2006(Gen 5)<---You Leased This
2007-2011(Gen 6)
2012-2016(Gen 7)

And the Solara is only in Gen 2

Yeah the new G6 coupe is a total rip-off of the gen 2 Solara. I saw one at night and thought it was a Solara.

I prefer the stock look of a gen1-1.5 Solara over the gen2-2.5, but when a gen2 is hooked up right with the proper mods, they can look very very hott.

I prefer my gen 1 (and I'm the type of guy that prefer new things all the time) but I wasn't too pissed when the gen 2 arrived.

The GEN 2 does look much better with a full factory lip kit and dropped a bit,

Sucks the Solara's are gone. Just makes it that much rare lol
