USA 2000 Solara owner...help please

We just purchased a 2000 Solara V6 from an Indy Toyota dealer yesterday. As it turns out there is only one master key turned in with the car. We have had a Lexus key made before and know the cost will be high. Does anyone have any ideas on the best, cheapest way to go about getting new keys? The keyfob is seperate from the master key. Sorry if this questions been asked before!!

Thank you...Jenny

Questions

1. Why not go back to the dealer for additional keys, they should at least provide you with 2 at no cost.

2. Is the key a traditional key or is the top of the key thick? If it is thick that most likely it has a transponder built into it that needs to be bought and programmed at Toyota..

3. If you need alarm fobs, I have 2 from my 01 Toyota Solara for $15 shipped for both (don't have the car anymore after it was totaled)

Jon.

Toyota is about the only place you can get the new keys (the ones with transponders) made... Im pretty sure if you Google it you can find somewhere else.

is it a SE model or SLE? i think only SLE came with chips in the keyfob. you may also buy the key from the ebay and program it yourself.

WTB 2000 Solara SE transponder key blank

Does anyone have a reliable source to buy blank transponder keys (other than dealer)? I bought one from eBay but I haven't been able to program it for my 2000 Solara SE. I tried the sequence about 5 times, and the security light never stops flashing like it's supposed to after about 80 seconds.

The key was cut properly, it fits the ignition, and the engine turns over but won't start. I have the master key and it works fine.

Please help!

The keys have transponders or chips in them. I've seen some local locksmiths here on Long Island NY who advertise that they have the blanks and can make the keys so there should be some wherever you are. However, I don't think you'll save much over the cost of a ew key from the dealer. I would go back and demand a second key and remote from the dealer. That's what came with the car originally and that's what you should have gotten when you bought it. If you get no satisfaction, I suggest you call Toyota Customer Service. I would not order a blank over the internet. I've heard a few stories of blanks not working, simply because they're dummies. Good luck.

Solara transponder key

I've spoken to the on-line seller, and he agreed to send me another blank transponder key. It is much less than what the dealer charges, and I'll let you guys know if I have better success with the second key.

Your best bet is to go to the dealer and have on cut and program. All Solara cars have chips in them. Save time... pay a few more bucks and live happy
