New 07 Solara Convertible SLE Yesterday

We picked up our new 2007 Solara SLE Convertible yesterday! What a beautiful car. Titanium Silver. Replaced my wife's 2002 Miata (we loved the Miata, but it was too small for me - 6'4", no room for luggage for even a weekend trip, and not safe for the Interstate trips my wife takes for business.)

Would like to hear thoughts of other Solara convertible owners out there...

Just bought a 2007 Solara SLE instead of the 2007 Miata. Solara had lot more comfortable seats as required by an old fart like me. Traded in my second Cadi STS 2000 (had all the toys). The Solara is a fantastic machine. Triptonic type shifting is silky smooth. It's Quiet! You can hear the radio without going deaf, unlike the contertible Mustangs. The only mod I'm going to install is either a backup sound/sensor system or a rearview backup video camera similar to what I installed on my wife's Kia Spectra-5. The Solara's rear view is greatly deminished when looking in the center rear view mirror, especially with the top down and the boot cover on.

Of all the 2007 convertibles we tested, the Solara was the tightest, smoothest riding, and certainly the most quiet (with top up or down). It takes high speed curves and corners right on track. For a cheapscate old guy that doesn't like putting out the kind of money they want for a Lexus, this Solara SLE convertible an excellent choice.

Does anyone have an idea where or who may supply chrome door sills?

Great decision KC.

My wife would never ride with me on my motorcycle so when I sold the bike I started researching convertibles. I figured it would be best of both worlds, the safety missing on a bike but also 'wind in the hair' when you want it.

I spoke with owners of various cars, we even rented a Miata for a weekend (discovering what you already know, not much luggage space and after a couple of days climbing in and out I was done with the tiny car). I liked the hardtops that folded into the trunk when the roof was up but they all take up most of the trunk when down. Eventually it was down to the Solara or a Jag XK8 (both used). One call to my insurance company cemented the Toyota decision.

Now the bride and I take day and full weekend rides together, I'm showing her all the great backroads I enjoyed on the bike for so many years. We're having a great time going topless.

If you're as allergic to driving anything 'stock' like I am or want to do your own maintenance, check out this page I maintain for the Solara: www.gadgetjq.com/solara
You'll find all sorts of tips that'll make the ride even better.

Cheers
