I have a 99 Solara V6 and am having problems because my traction control is always engaged. When I floor the car, the RPM's go up, but theres no power to the wheels. Anyways, I was told by many people to reset the ECU. I did by disconnecting the battery (both pos. and neg.) all night, to no avail. I heard that to properly reset the ECU you have to do it right on the ECU itself which is under the centre console.

Anyone know how to reset the ECU?? Can I manually reset if I get to it, or is a computer required (from dealer)???

Unplugging the positive terminal of the battery for 15 minutes should make the ECU a clean slate.

But for your problem I don't think resetting the ECU will do anything. On our 2000 XLE V6 its the same thing. Traction Control is on my default. There's a switch to turn it off, but everytime you restart the car it is on again.

I think you have to go and mess with the circuits and relays to disable traction control. You might even be able to wire it so that it is only on when you push the button, but I dunno about that.

I thought Solara have the "Trac OFF" button? :???:

When the traction control is turned ON you will see the light show up on the dash, at least that's how it works on my 96 Gen3.

Man, I think my next mod is to have a TRAC OFF button (I don't have it on my 96).

Henry are you reading this??

Edit:
I've talked to the guys at DPE when I was doing my dyno (my first 2 run had the TC turned ON), they said I can take it to Yoshio and have the TC permenantly disabled, but that sounds silly because what's the point of killing it when it's actually a safety feature right?

Of course I am! I really should be working though....

I'll look through my wiring diagrams, get some sissors and a switch, and voila! There's your on/off switch! Now it's just a matter finding a nice place to mount that switch....

I don't know if it's as easy as snipping a wire or two but I'll look into it.

Does the Solara have the VVT-I? I know it has the updated 1MZ-FE motor with the 200 horses under the hood, is that any diffrent than what is in my 1995 ES300?

It is called a front strut tower brace (that's the right way to put it) and you can get it on ebay. The layman term for it is strut brace or something along those lines.

There are different brands all of which have the same effect. So just pick one based on looks, to what suits you.
