HELP ME!!01' overridding key to copy

i got a copy made to my 01' solara. the car turned but would not start(and a security light popped on). i understand that u can't get a copy to the valet just the original. but i was sure i had the original because of the covered emblem on the key. is there a way to override the security, like some sort of code or something?? i'm looking for the most simplistic way to solve the problem. without having to peel off megabucks to a dealer. PLEASE HELP!!

copy key

If your original key has a thick head on it, it's got a micro-chip in it. A copy of the key will not work. You have to buy a key blank through Toyota and have the key cut and programmed by Toyota. They're going to need your car and the original key to do that. Cost about $100 a key. Ridiculous, but that's the case. Beware of aftermarket keys sold via the internet. Many of them don't work, and even if they do, you still have to have them programmed. I did recently see a local locksmith truck that advertised aftermarket keys, so many some of them are available locally. Good luck.
