My daughter has an 01 Solara.
It has the 3.0, with a 5 speed tranny.
Milage is 69K........
1) Is this an interference engine?
2) What is the recommended interval to change the timing belt and
H2O pump?
3) Often, the car (while sitting still) won't go into either 1st or reverse.
I told her to put the car in 2nd or 3rd and let the clutch out a bit,
then shift into 1 or R. She says if she double clutches, then
usually it works. She let me drive it, and I couldn't get the car
into reverse, until I shifted into 2nd and rolled it forward about a foot.
I do not know the answer to the first question about the engine, but I do know that the timin belt interval is 90k miles, so you should be alright for a while. As for the first and reverse issue, my car does the same thing... If I just let the clutch out slightly and then put it back in it will go into gear every time. Not sure why it does that, but like you said double clutching does the trick.

Thanks for the info on the 90K, I was afraid it might be 60K.
I just did the timing belt on my other daughters Camry and that was more of a pain than I expected. Don't want to have to do another one so soon.
^ understandable, I had the dealer do it because I was too nervous to tear it all apart... I helped my cousin do the timing belt on his Audi A4 and decided it wasnt worth it props for doing it yourself!
I have a 2000 solara e153 in my camry, and I don't have to do that.
I wonder if it's more of an issue with the stock clutch/flywheel? (I have a Spec stage III clutch and fidanza/spec lightweight flywheel
anybody on here with aftermarket clutch/flywheel?
My daughter isn't into after market up-grades.
She just wants to keep her stock ride running right, and not have to pay dealer prices for any repair work.
I told her that until the shifting either bothers her too much, or it leaves her stranded, to just live with it, as she found a way (double clutch) to make it work.
yeah king, it isnt as bad as it sounds... itll just do it once in a while Ive noticed. I would be curious to know if there is a fix out there though...

having just gone through a h2o pump and belts (serpentine, fan, timing) replacement on my 2000 solora with 60k and change, i can say it's 60k for inspection of pump, 90k for timing belt. however, as the pump i guess leaked on the timing belt, had to replace it early.
apparently, when toyota says "inspect and repld as needed at 60k" for the pump, they don't mean 60,001, or in my case, 60,454, they really mean 60k.
