Question Potential buyer, Need advice

Hi All,

i just drove a solara last night, SE V6 with the S/C, M/T. It has 155,xxx on the body, but apparently a new engine was installed at 50k. Rode very smoothly, and looks great, but I have a few questions.

First of all, the S/C is the trd one and everything in the engine looks great as far as visual goes, but there was a CEL on while I was driving it. The owner says she's never had a problem with it, but could this be something caused by the addition of a S/C? I believe it also had TRD exhaust, but I thought all TRD parts were engineered to change nothing except performance and made to integrate very well into the car.

secondly, being that this is a relatively high mileage car, do I have any major issues to look forward to? i've never owned a toyota, but all i hear about is their reliability. I guess i'm just wondering how much longer I can expect this car to last me. I drive a SAAB right now.... what a nightmare!!!

thanks for your time.

T,

If the owner will allow it take the car to an Autozone or other auto supply store that'll let you use their code checker (free). You'll be able to plug it into the car (under the dash) and see the code set when the CEL came on. It might be something minor (the gas cap isn't screwed on tight) or possibly something costly (bad 02 sensor or knock sensor) or something in between.. Checking the code is the only way to know for sure.

Cheers

Seems at that many miles, that what is ready to give out is the O2 sensors. If you have your own mechanic, see if they are willing to go to yours to have it the whole car checked out.
