New Trend? NO side moldings on doors?

Is this a new trends on ALL cars now? Now protective side moldings on doors ? It used to be only sports cars. Now even the Camry (a four door SEDAN!) doesn't come with side molding as though people have stopped opening their doors and "dinging" other peoples cars. At least on the Camry it's offered as an option by Toyota. The Solara has no OEM option at all.

I'm not selling for this company but I was happy to find them because I'm sick of getting dings rubbed out of my door by the bump shop guy. I have a 2007 Solara covert...
Check them out on Ebay...they look oem on my car too

someone just bought!!!

Geez...you can't see it in the link now 'cause someone just bought it off ebay..
Here is a pic with moldings from this company:

Maybe it's not as "sexy" with the door moldings...but it stops the doors from being dingged up!

Side mouldings for the Solara are shown as a port installed option (PIO). You 'should' be able to visit your Toyota dealer and find the mouldings in the accessory parts catalog in colors to match your OEM paint.

I know I've seen them offered on E-Bay along with the chrome door sill protectors and other parts for a lot less than you'd pay the dealer.

The problem is you might mount the door guards on your Solara to protect it from whatever other car is in your garage but then in a parking lot another door won't match up with the strip and 'ding'...you get a dent anyway.

The only real way to avoid dings is to never drive the car. Another alternative try to park as far away from other vehicles as possible and when you get a ding anyway, visit your local liquor store, pick up a bit of dry ice and try getting the dent out with that old shade tree trick.

Cheers

Not for 2006 or above

Toyota stopped offering the Solara moldings as even an OEM "accessory option for the Solara after 2006 and above. ONLY the Camry is it still offered as an "option" you can buy OEM. For the Solara you must go to third party vendors if you have a 2006 or above year.
