Getting more aftermarket parts made.

The solara is a great car. I bought one over the accord for that reason.

What we would all like to see is more performance parts. TRD stopped creating superchargers and such with the 2003 model.

After talking with someone at TRD, they said they have no plans on revisiting the solara platform. There isn't enough demand.

This is where I think aftermarket companies are wrong. Would it be possible to start a list of things people would want and would actually buy for the solara? Hopefully the lists will be started on Toyota Nation and on SolaraGuy. This way we could hand aftermarket companies a list saying that we DO have people that want parts. There IS enough of a demand.

Thanks,

wlfpck

It isnt a terrible idea, but I think in the end you will find that most people will not put any money up. Compared to my gen 3 days, modifying the solara is a blessing- at least the parts were even made in the first place for this car. You will find that the parts are very difficult to find sometimes, but if you keep at it they will pop up. What kind of things did you have in mind?

Wlfpck,

I may be wrong but suspect few people buy a Solara intending it to be a performance car. There are just too many other lighter, more powerful, better handling cars to choose from.

TRD and other aftermarket suppliers have probably discovered the research and development costs aren't worth the very few parts they sell to Solara owners compared to Supra owners for instance.

That said, there 'are' a few things available for the Gen2 and 2.5 Solara, mufflers, intakes, shocks, lowering kits etc. Just no supercharger although you might be able to use the Gen1 supercharger if you're willing to put a bulge in your hood.

Cheers

^ the engine in the gen 2 solara is not the same as the gen 1, so there is no way to make the supercharger fit...

they had TRD parts for the gen 1, but they discontinued them when they made the gen 2- it makes sense.

well technically the scion TC supercharger will fit the solara second gen. The only problem is clearance issues and reflashing the ECU.

As for finding much lighter cars to tune. Yeah... there are lighter cars. But yet people still tune accords. Solara weighs about the same. If people tuned on basis of just a lighter car, then everyone would be tuning civics and corolla's. Yet people still tune accords.

I'm just simpily suggesting that we make a list of people that want parts made. There's no money committment. Just a list of people that want more parts made for the solara.

That way TRD and AEM, etc will realize that there are people that want to tune the solara platform.

It may work with other brands, but youd have to have a substantial list of at least 100 people to possibly get anything done IMO... it may be possible to get something done with a list of one specific part or two, but just showing them that we are out there really wont accomplish anything since our numbers are so small. TRD is not going to start producing anything for the gen 1 solara again, it doesnt make sense to.
