What engine oil for 2006 v6 sle?

Hello,

I have a 2006 Solara V6 SLE. I've always gone to my dealer for oil change. But since my recent relocation, I had to go to walmart for my last one.

So they put Pennzoil 5w30 (bulk) in it. I don' t know if it's because of the winter weather, my recent long road trip, or the cheap oil, my car has been louder than it used to be at first start up. Also, if I shift to D from Parking, and release the breaks immediately, the car tends to *jump* forward.

Am I over-paranoid, or should I sue walmart ?
What oil type should I use?

Thank you very much,
Hao

Read your owners manual. 5W-30 should be fine, Pennzoil is a good brand. Is the engine idle higher causing the car to move forward?

I didn't bring it when I moved, and I can't find one online

And no, it just sounds slightly louder than usual.

What, Google didn't find it? : http://gadgetjq.com/solara/maintenance.htm

First item on the page.

About the noise. Assuming it's a 'clattering' sound it seems to be normal for the V-6 engine at first start of the day using dino oil. Both my Solara and Highlander made the noise (I could only hear it with windows open or the top down) until I switched them over to synthetic (Royal Purple) oil. With the synthetic there's no more start up clatter.

Cheers

Brilliant, thanks for the link. I tried google, but after I sifted through a few pages of results, i gave up. they were all junk.

I am a newbie when it comes to cars. I've been reading about oil and I just want to confirm it. According to the chart on http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html, it looks like 5w30 is semi-synthetic. If I put other types such as 5w40 or 0w30, will it harm the engine?

Thanks

5W-30 is just the weight (thickness or flow characteristic) of the oil. You can find it in every form, dino, semi-syn or full synthetic.

In addition to information in the owners manual you'll find the required oil type on the oil filler cap. Your engine is designed specifically to use that weight, any other won't provide the lubrication needed.

Cheers
